    Old Carver Amazings...

    Yo Florian:

What do you think of a pair of the Carver Amazings for an entry into ribbon panels? All your posturing has piqued my interest. I want to give a pair a try and have no problem with a little DIY. I was thinking these were fairly common and should be available at a reasonable price for what is merely a stupid thing I want to do. Is this a good start or is there something else out there that might be a better bet.

Call it $1000.00 for a functionally A-1 pair.

    Thanks,

    jocko

The Carvers are a really cool speaker, and replacement ribbons are available at VERY reasonable prices in the 200$ range. They use regular dynamic drivers for the bass, but in a dipole configuration. Its a Kick Ass speaker, and i can highly recommend it as a good switch. They do need a LOT of power to come alive tough, think around 500wpc or more. Their ratings lead you to believe that they will work with normal amps, but they really kick it up a notch with some serious balls.

Check out some digital amps from the Red Dragon Audio, H2O or other based ICE amps for a quick and easy entry into the world of true fidelity.

Damn... Just what I deserve for looking!

There is a pair on Ebay for pick-up only in my state, NC. My wife would absolutely KILL ME if I were to do this. Crap. I hate this hobby.
