Magnetic shielding -- affects TV or front speakers?

HELP!!! I have two Vandersteen 1C front speakers that are "not magnetically shielded and should be positioned at least 10 inches away from a direct view television set'" according to the website:

I have a Toshiba 42H83 TV:

Because of physical limitations and layout of my living room, I absolutely have no choice but to stand the speakers less than 4 inches from the TV (I am truly am stuck with this choice, so I can't debate alternate component arrangement).

Questions:

1) When talking about magnetic shielding, is the interference that could result with the audio, the video, or both?

2) I've got everything set up and honestly can't hear or see any audio or video interference from the speakers or the TV. Is it possible that I could just think everything sounds/looks fine but that there's some interference?

3) If I'm screwed and there is interference that I'm not noticing, what steps can I take to minimize interference? Or, is there any special cabling, components, or hardware I can buy that helps?

This is a projection TV, and though CRT which can be affected by speaker magnets, you speaker is likely farther than 10" from the actual CRT component inside.

I certainly noticed the affect when I placed my unshielded speakers to close to my direct CRT TV -- a distinct green case affect a considerable portion of the screen.

As I understand it, permanent damage is unlikely with modern sets since they degauss (demagnetize) themselves when turned on.

The magnetic fields from the speaker magnets interfer with the electron beam in the CRT. If there is any effect, it will effect the picture only.

If it were me, I would put the speaker where ever you want and just see if it causes any noticeable distortions in the picture. If you don't see anything, just leave it there, and most likely you'll be ok. If the configuration does cause a problem then you'll have to either move the speaker further away from the tv, get a different speaker, or get an LCD or Plasma tv.

If you have to move your speaker, you may only need to move it an inch or so.
