studio monitor speakers vs. regular home speakers

I'm not looking for anything expensive because this is actually for my 3rd system. Just looking for BIG bang for the bucks! With that said, has anyone used studio monitor type speakers for home use? What are the pros and cons?

Looking to spend $300 tops (yea I know, getting ready to hear "if you spend another $50 or $100 or $200 or..." But I l aready spent a few grand more on my other speakers). Was considering these:

Hmm. That tweeter's waveguide looks a lot like the EOS Waveguide® developed by JBL for its LSR Series of amplified studio monitors. If the tweeter itself is any good, it will sound terrific controlled by that acoustic waveguide. Problem is, I don't know how the tweeter itself performs.
