    Im a Newbie: Amp Clipping

Being a new person to this audiophile world, I have some things to learn.

Ive heard of Amp clipping many times but I dont think I heard it too much before esp with my equipment. Im getting confused with distortion which is probably totally different.

How does Amp clipping exactly sound and when does it happen?

You should find a little humor and some great info on clipping in this thread.

Ok i think I heard it before...particularly many times on cheap stock auto stereos in cars when a strong bass note hits it goes silent for a second or so then music comes back and distorts like hell. Correct?

That'll get ya everytime. Not sure if that's clipping but that is the sweet sound of please turn me down. Number one reason why I never drive my wife's car.
