Looking for a sub..

OK i was just going to get a Dayton 12" sub But the instock date keeps geting pushed back so im wondering if theres any thing just as good for the price. I dont rilly want to spend anymore than 150. Is the dayton 12" worth waiting for?

One thing you may consider doing is looking for a used sub on one of the various home theater websites, audiogon, ebay, or craigslist.com. Another is to build your own, assuming you have the the necessary hardware to do so. If you have something other than your primary receiver to power it with, a non-powered sub is another excellent option.

Partsexspress is local to me so any stuff to build would be vary easaly avlible. I have looked online at subs and just seams like shipping of a bid ol sub rilly kills any good price. Would i be able to build a sub for 150 and it be just as good as a dayton 12" built with all stuff from PE? It seams like the stuff to build a decent sub would cost me 250+ whitch is about 100 more than i want to spend. Would have to be a powerd sub as my rx is only 2channel but dose have pre outs.

If you can build a cabinet you can build a pretty good sub for $130....

This would be more than enough subwoofer for most people. 100 watts is plenty to drive this very efficient woofer.

IMO you aren't going to find much for $150 other than the Dayton subs.

Humm, well might be able to build a cabnate. Its whinter thow and not much room in the garage to build. An amp, woofer, and cabnate bacicly all i need right? Dont see anything els i would need.

Well, you might want to spend $15 and get some vinyl laminate to finish it, unless you just want to paint it.
Parts Express sells completed cabinets, but they'll cost you money. Building cabinets is cheap and easy. I can usually do a pair of bookshelf speakers or a sub in about 2 hours. It takes a lot longer to veneer/finish and assemble crossovers in speakers. With a sub you just take the plate amp leads, snap them into the woofer terminals and go. You'll want some polyfil or acoustic foam for stuffing/damping material as well. That's cheap...$6 for 5lb bag or so...

Well ment becides finishing stuff, Should i go vented or sealed? That is if i do build my own.

Depends on the woofer in question and the size of your room, but if you pick the 12" Shielded DVC, I'd recommend porting it...

Isent polyfil stuff only for seald?

No, you'll at least want to line all the walls with an inch or two of polyfil, loosely fluffed. I'm guessing you'll use a bunch more. It took me a few days of trial and error to find a good amount, amazing what it does.
