Question DVD Recorders - Surround Audio???!!!

Ok. I'm not sure if this is the right forum. But couldn't find anything suitable. I just bought a single disk Panasonic DVD Recorder. And I was surprised to see that none of their DVD recorders (not even many other manufacturers) have the capability to record 5.1 surround onto the DVD. They have only RCA audio inputs.
You know when you buy DVD movies, even though the movie is non High Definition, the sound is still 5.1 surround.
None of these DVD recorders have a optical input /digital co-axial input and guarantee that if it receives a 5.1 or higher surround audio signal , it will record it to the DVD along with the video.

Do you guys know of any reasonably priced DVD recorders that would record true surround sound? I'm not talking about DVD copiers.

    Thanks
    Paul

I would imagine you won't find this feature because of copy protection issues. Same reason you can't get SACD or DVD-Audio from an optical/coax cable.
