    Steve Hackett - Metamorpheus

I've been spinning this new SH classical CD for about a week now in rotation with Glass Hammer and Gordon Giltrap.

If you like light classical music, then there's nothing here not to like. This is his second classical effort, the first being A Midsummer's Night Dream. Unlike that one, though, which was mostly solo classical guitar with a few symphonic tracks, this one swings much more heavily to use of a small orchestra. It is light and positive, and sounds very much like a soundtrack album at times. It's totally instrumental.

You don't have to be a Steve Hackett fan to like this, just a fan of guitar-based classical music or light soundtracks.

Perfect for Sunday mornings or tea with the missus.

It's distributed by InsideOut Records so should be easy to find at good music stores.

There are no drums. Think good spa music or the type of thing you would hear while sitting in the dentist's chair.

I love this album. It's still quite possibly my favorite album of 2005. What's not to like here?!

This album reminds me very much of the soundtrack to the movie The Stars Fall on Henrietta, composed by David Benoit. Benoit is a pianist rather than a guitar player. If you love this, then you will probably love that. Another great soundtrack is October Sky. You may also like the work of Jan Kaczmarek. Try Washington Square or Bliss. And then of course there are the soundtracks by trumpeter Mark Isham.
