    Bose wave music system alternate

Help. My father is insisting that the Bose wave music system is the best thing that has ever happened to music. I know that Bose is usually over priced for what you get. But I don't know of a comparable system that I could take him to see (listen to). He doesn't need anything hifi or even midfi but I want to make sure that he gets his money's worth. Does anyone know of a comparable system that I could introduce him to that's a better deal? Here is the link for the Bose... http://www.bose.com/controller?event...dex_2.jsp&ck=0

    Thanks, I feel the same.
Has anyone checked out the BOSTON ACOUSTICS MicroSystem CD Table Radio? Is this any better or the same kind of deal?

You're going to bring out some strong feelings on these boards by posting about Bose! For what it's worth, I own two of the older wave radio/cd players. I use one as a stereo / clock radio in the bedroom and the other in my "gym" (tradmill, weights, etc.). For those purposes, they are excellent. Are they worth the money? I can't really answer that. I am happy with them for what they are and have not heard anything comparable. I certainly can't compare them with my main systems - apples and oranges. If your dad is looking for something easy to use and that provides decent undistorted sound (with some bass), then the Bose is not a bad purchase.

I know people hate Bose on this site, but I've been pretty happy with both of my wave radios.

Sorry Olivertmc, I didn't mean to bring out any feelings or to put down Bose. I have a Bose myself in the car and am very happy with it. But I have seen many posts here that tell how overpriced they are for what you get. I just want to make sure that I get my dad the best bang for his buck. $500 seems a little high for what this is but it may be the best available. Just doing everything available to get the best deal.

    Several other options

The BA system comes highly rated and does sound very good. At $150 msrp it's a very good deal if you don't need CD playback. It's also very easy to use. Here are some other options:

    Tivoli Model 1:
    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-OorWFGz...0&I=582MODEL1C
I read that it sounds very good, is super easy to use, and that it has very good radio reception too. There are several options as well: second speaker (for stereo), Sirius satellite radio, and fancy cabinets. Does not have clock radio function or remote, but it has inputs for an external CD player, though. At $99 msrp, it's hardly worth complaining about..

    Boston Acoustics MicroSystem CD:
    http://www.bostonacoustics.com/hs_pr...&CategoryID=34
Everything that Bose has and more with better quality and value for about the same price ($499 msrp).

    Cambridge Soundworks "SoundWorks" Radio 730 & 740:
    http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/s...gory=aud_radio
Another radio that beats Bose on every feature and only costs $200 ($349 msrp for model 740 with CD, although you can add an external CD player for a whole lot less).

    Polk Audio's I-Sonic™ entertainment system:
    http://www.polkaudio.com/I-Sonic/
Supposedly the best sound quality of all the above from a reputed speaker company. All the features of the others plus HD radio, XM satellite radio ready, MP3 CD-RW compatibility, and exteranl hookups for your ipod or other devices. It's a little more than the Bose ($599 msrp), but I'm sure that CC will sell it at a much lower price once they start shipping at the end of the summer.

There are other radios available from Sony and Panasonic, but I doubt they will give you the sound quality you're looking for.

I agree about the Cambridge Soundworks 740. Sounded very good. Even their older Model 88 sounded very good.

I have heard the wave radio CD and I was not impressed at all. Considering how exprensive it is, bose is out of control.
