I would recommend going one step up which doesn't have to cost much more. I use the E3c which is the forerunner to the SL310. It is clearly better than the E2 - SE210 series. I have two pair!

Note that these Shures are "isolating" or ear canal headphones: they are a big step up from practically "earbud" 'phones. Earbuds merely rest on the ear rather than being insterted into it like these Shures

The bass performance from isolating buds depends a lot on how they fit in your ear. I use the biggest rubber adapter on my CX-300 II's which make the buds fit snug in my ears. When they are placed properly, I get extremely good bass response, which leads me to wonder if the bass isn't slightly boosted compared to the rest of the frequency spectrum.

Oh, and they do isolate nicely which sometimes leads me to use them for 'protection' when vacuuming and doing other noise intensive activities.

To split hairs, I find that the 3 series is better than the 2 series - not the old 2 vs the new 2. A lady friend of mine had the E2s and I gave her E3s for her birthday. It was her (non-audiophile) observation that they are far superior with her iPod.

Dead on. I find that the smallest foam vs. rubber fit my ear canal the best. The Shures come with about six different sets having different sizes and are of different materials. You need to find what works best for you. Ideally, you would get a custom fit set like the pros do with their IEMs.

I have had the Shure E-5c two way with the tri-flange(Modified) for a few years. The Bass is smooth, accurate and low. I can't listen to anything else. They isolate you from the world as you listen to your music.

I have an old pair of E2c's and love them! I use the foam tips. They work like ear plugs. You squish the foam, put it in your ear and then let it take shape. They are comfortable and stay in my ears while exercising. The foam also gives a tight fit to maximize the bass. I use the small tip in one ear and medium tip in the other ear. My local musical instrument store orders refills for me when I need them.

Basically, it is an in line mic for using with my iPhone and also controls the players. Gives me more functionality with the Shures.

Im not an Iem guy, but i have used some models. For under 100 bucks i was satisfied with the Ultimate Ears 500. Can be found for $70 bucks.

I have found that Sure products in this category are of high quality in most cases and you would not go wrong going with them. But there a lot of contenders in the ear bud or small headphone world in today's world so keep an open mind when shopping around and try to listen to anything before purchasing when possible(i know it is hard to do that in today's internet order world).

Once you have them sealed properly they sound amazing!

The single balanced armature drivers offer a good sound, but for a more articulate sound, I may opt for the dual or triple driver models (SE425 / SE535).

If 100 dollars is the limit, I may actually recommend the Denon AH-C560R. It's a little stronger overall I think. Smoother sound.
