I got to hear an amazing little system yesterday

Met a long lost relative yesterday and her husband had an interesting setup going on. An old Sherwood TT, small Epos speakers, and an old Magnavox console stereo amp modded a little and pushing a whopping 15wpc. Below is what they look like before being removed from the original console.

Scroll down to post 6 to see what they look like after being cleaned up.

It was amazing what kind of sound this little tiny system had with vinyl. The guy had just purchased an old record collection of 5300 albums for $500. It included some crap but also many gems. We had a blast spinning random albums of people we never heard as well as some we had.

NIce post HiFy, proof positive that there's gold in old. I hear it every single day...I actually rebuilt an Electrohome console unit, bascially changed out the speakers, TT and made some small changes to the amp. I listened to it for about a month but the novelty wore off. I posted it here but nobody really cared. Anyhow, my 15 watt Marantz is currently rockin me, gotta go.

I love it!! Tell him it's 100% original and good for him. Fantastic DIY. The Sherwood looks mint also. I bet the sound was brilliant. I thought you meant he still had everything in the console still...

Very cool, those old tube consoles never go out of style, to a good ear. The old magnavox tube consoles have some of the best sounding amps i have heard.
