    Low Priced Subwoofer Choices?

I'm in the market for a new subwoofer and am going back and forth regarding how much to spend. In a perfect world, I'd love to drop $500-$600 and get a nice SVS subwoofer but there are other things I could spend an extra couple hundred dollars on right now. So, since I have two HT setups I began tossing around the idea of getting a lower priced sub now and in a few months getting the SVS and moving the other sub to my secondary system which has no subwoofer currently.

If I were to spend $200-$300 what would be a decent quality option. My main room is 15x20 and we watch DVD 60% of time, listen to music the rest. I've seen some reviews on the JBL Northridge E250P and they are favorable. Any other solid choices I should be aware of?

These are some of the best budget subs on the market right now.

    Hsu Research - STF 1 or STF 2 (299 and 399)

    Cadence - X Sub (249)

You could also look at some of the subs from Velodyne.
    DPS and VX series.

The Dayton Titanic DIY subs are very popular and quite good as well.

The SVS PB10 is also only 429.00 which is a great sub at a lower price from SVS.

    This should get you started.

    hello msinderson,

I wouldn't guess to a JBL product, maybe the bass array is frequently spongy:You'll get
much better products for the money.
The Acoustic Research sub from the Status-Range(very good bass-quality) or from the newer product line.
The british company Bowers & Wilkins does also great work in subwoofer research:
The ASW 300 and the ASW 600.The finish is very great, the drivers are ordinary build and
they don't tent to loud hum.
Or what about Axiom, the subs look very good and they look well build(the price is also acceptable).

I hope i could help you a little bit to find a great subwoofer

You can probably nab a pretty decent subwoofer off audiogon or ebay for $200-$300. I see subs going for about 50-75% of retail there.

There's always the DIY approach if you have the time and access to tools. Building a sub is really easy, and can save you a mint.
