Holy Hammering Batman!!
German Viagra anyone?!? Man, woke up this morning to find the site has been nailed hard.
After thought, hey Adam and site mods, can we not set something up where a new member is limited in how many posts they can make within a certain time frame? I mean, on one hand this would suck for someone wanting to really join, but this guy went nuts. Maybe that's not the best idea but there has to be something that can be done to avoid this problem. I noticed he did most of them in an hour or so.
So say, a new poster can't exceed 15 posts in an hour or something. Would be enough for most new people and would limit the damage of a spammer.

Poppachubby I just deleted all 52 and banned the spammer. Most likely a spam bot to drop so many in a short amount of time. If we set a limit as to how many posts a new member can make in a brief amount of time that might have slowed you down. Seriously I appreciate your posts and your enthusiasm.
I think Adam has been working on a way to keep spam bots from being able to do what just happened. I removed them all so even if deleted would not junk up the forums. I was going to leave one of the deleted cialis ads in vintage gear if I thought folks would enjoy the irony.

If the technology is used that is already available to spoil bots, this can be avoided. The use of the strange letters and words that need to be typed in when creating an account cannot be read by a bot and therefore the account could never be created in the first place.

Well John, now that I think about it, to deprive the AR members of posts with the potential to be as great as the ones that I have posted....lunacy!!!

WOW!!!!! 52 spams in an hour. This guy needs to sell pills quick I take it!!!! When will these spammers figure it out that most of us who use this forum for a real reason, don't want to look a spam. I mean, I like to relax and eat a $5.00 foot long from my local Subway(c) and drink a cold Dr. Pepper(c) when surfing this site. I can't really feel at home unless I have a Snickers Bar(c) to enjoy while reading post. These spams make it hard to leave a message while using my ultra quick new Windows 7(c). The nerve!

Most likely not. The reason we get that on audioREVIEW is that one of the bigger consmerreview sites, like MTBR.com, is being hammered in the forums and all consumerreview forums suffer.
If the latest version of vB has faster and less system intensive algorithms then it is likely to see fewer of those.
The issue stems from MTBR just being so damn big and growing. We done some things to reduce those system too busy moments like limiting the time a search forums can take, and making sure those process threads don't lock up the system. But sometimes stuff still happens, or maybe some big news comes out and the forums get hammered.

The numbers speak for themselves.
And unfortunately, with limited resources. To the victor goes the spoils. Which means on a lot of things, AudioREVIEW doesn't/can't update till the bigger sites start down that path.
