    Ray Lamontagne's Spring Tour

Having seen him last year I can tell you that he's worth seeing, but don't expect a very high energy show. He barely acknowledged that there was an audience in the room. See him for the music, not the stage show. here's my review of his Toronto show last October.

FA, he was on SNL last Saturday. Did you catch him? Because I think the latest load of regulars on that show suck, I don't watch it much, but I did listen to one song he did. I forget the name of it, but, well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't care for his singing or performance style. The backup band was okay, but during the entire song he was stroking his acoustic guitar wildly in an up-n-down motion, and I don't think his other hand moved down the neck once. I could be wrong about that, but nevertheless, not so good IMO. But to each his/her own.

I watched the first song and recorded the second but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

If you read my review of seeing him live last fall, you'll see that he doesn't look very comfortable on stage and SNL didn't change that opinion for me. But despite that, his quiet demeanor does have a certain stage presence of its own. And his recorded voice does not do his live voice justice.

When I saw him, he sold out a 2000 seat theatre and even the scalpers ran out of tickets prior to the show. He's here again next month and he's sold out a 5,000 seat venue this time. And all this without ever having a song on commercial radio here (that I'm aware of).

It's cool if he's not your cup of tea. But he's gaining popularity and I hope that he can develop a more comfortable persona when on stage. I can see why someone watching SNL and seeing him for the first time would have not been impressed.
