who'da thunk? I like Goblin Cock!
The band that is... I got a hold of their second album (yes, they made two)

its a Rob Crow joint (Pinback and a myriad other projects)

Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath-ish, kinda like that last Black Mountain CD, except maybe better. Given the cover of Rob Crow's last solo album, Living Well, he's got a macabre sense of humor. Even if much of his music is sublime indie pop, this album rocks. The band name is juvenile and song titles suggest they aren't taking this seriously, but the material is by no means a toss off or over the top. Obviously, Crow has a lot of muses and this vein of Deep Purple is one of them.

    will wonders ever cease?

Wilderness Heart, the new Black Mountain album, is their best yet. It doesn't get released until Sept. 14th but you can get a good quality leaked version over at Obner in that twentyten thread.

As for GC, well, I'll give anything Rob Crow-related a listen but these two albums just don't hold my interest enough to get to know them. Other Rob Crow side-projects such as Thingy and Heavy Vegetable are much, much better. Plenty of silliness without the gay-metal jokes.

I gotta admit, when I saw the header of this thread I was going to delete it until I saw who posted it.

It kinda makes sense that a "cunning linguist" would like Goblin Cock.

I always knew there was something strange about you. Of course, I do like this album:

Not so much, but there is nothing I could add that wouldn't get me in trouble. :yikes:

    I'll admit, I'm curious.
I think I came to Living Well a lot later than you guys did (I was on a break when it swept this board) but boy have I fallen hard since then. If any of his other projects are half as good as that album, I'm interested. I've always liked Pinback but the times when they coalesce and kick out some tight jams are far overshadowed by the more meandering stuff on most of their records. This particular one seems pretty high-concept, but I could imagine that it could work.

I don't know what you mean by "high concept". It is different from Pinback albums or his Living Well solo album. At least Crow isn't Jack White, where every side project still sounds like The White Stripes.

I mean high-concept in that it is an explicitly homoerotic sludge metal band.

And in related news, at least from the Zach Smith side of the band, new Three Mile Pilot in a couple weeks! Been a long time coming on this one, though it looks like they forgot to budget any beer money for the cover...

Cool, I completely forgot about this one. Autobuy :)

edit: I found a good quality V0 mp3 copy here that will hold me over until I can get my hands on the real thing. One listen in so far and it's very good.

Thanks, you're on top of everything! Might have to go ahead and give it a listen, but pretty much an autobuy for me too. I wasn't too thrilled with the "what's in the air" single, but the EP from last year was cool, and both of those songs are on the record too. Had some Three Mile Pilot on that Lithium comp in the beginning, but had to pare it down along with a few others. If only they would make a 95 minute CD-R, but then again, who would ever listen to a meandering 95 minute comp :)
