Bryan Adams "Bare Bones" Tour

Don't ask me how I wound up being an escort for this show, the story is too convoluted and lurid to recount here. Suffice to say I was just as surprised to see Mr. Adams as he was to see me. The audience was primarily women ranging in age from 12 to whatever. Adams took the stage armed with acoustic guitar and launched into some of his up-tempo top 40 stuff. From the first chord I was rendered deaf as the screeching coming from the overwrought females around me promptly relieved me of whatever hearing 40 years of playing music hadn't.

Adams was joined onstrage by a pianst side man. And while I'd a preferred a full band this duo did more than hold up its share. I went into the show expecting to be bored angered at the waste of 2 more hours I'll never get back. However I found Adams so "honest" so engaging (his onstage banter and off-the-cuff back and forth with the audience show him to be a true performer) as to have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Now had the tickets not been free I wouldn't have been there, however if this tour comes to your town and you or your significant other is a fan you could do much worse than this for 2 hours.

I'm reminded of seeing Ryan (not Bryan) Adams a couple years ago in Mobile. He was in Birmingham the night before and someone in the audience kept yelling "Summer of 69". Ryan got mad and left the stage.

I saw him at least 22 years ago. My boyfriend at that time was a big fan of his. I was never really a fan but I do recall that he put on a good live show. Every time that I've seen him in an interview he seems like a pretty nice, down-to-earth guy so I'm not suprised to hear that he was engaging with the audience. Although he's received a lot of criticism for turning his back on the Canadian music industry (I personally don't blame him).

It's nice that you had a good time when you were expecting the evening to be a total waste.

My favorite Bryan Adams story is when Bryan Adams was opening for the Kinks, he was watching the Kinks' set from the side of the stage. Dave Davies thought that Bryan Adams was a roadie and after one of the songs handed his guitar to him to take care of.

I used to like this guy, but I moved on. Me and my buddies had fun with Summer Of '69, maybe substituting a word, or something like that.

Too funny for words. That is just priceless. Yeah, I know he plays sacharrine. romance pop but be that as it may. I had a good time.

Hey Swish, "The Summer of 69" is the one song that got too me. As a musician who had a band in High School (hell, Junior High) I knew exactly what he was singing about. You couldn't have left anyway, the way we were sandwiched in there!!!!!! Two completely sold out shows.

I saw Brian Adams on his first national tour, opening for Loverboy around 1980 i think, he was about 19 or 20 and had just released his second record. He hit the stage like a runaway train and quickly won over the 11,000 Loverboy fans and it was one of the only times I have ever seen an opening act get an encore even though few if any of us present knew who he was before the show started.

...but I truly hate his music and feel it's little more than disposable pop garbage, in the same league as Loverboy, Bon Jovi, Journey, and that ilk. No thank you please.

...but bear in mind that the music Adams was making in those days has no resemblance to what he has done in the last 15-20 years and i doubt any of it has made his setlist in a very long time.
