    Is 2008 over too fast?

All these people making all these best of 2008 lists...and here I am still getting first listens to stuff that's come out that totally flew past me. Here's a couple I just heard over the weekend that were good listens...

    Kepi: American Gothic
Former Groovie Ghoulies leader has a solo thing going on here, with guest appearances from friends like Kevin Seconds. It's still got that catchy, poppy feel but with a hint of country and a sloppy acoustic framework. nothing earth shattering, but a nice listen.

    Teenage Bottlerocket: Warning Device
Just another nice little album made by a Ramones worshiping poppy guitar group. I can't say anything like this will ever replace my old favorites, but I never get upset at derivative music when it is derived from something I really love and these fellas pull it off with aplomb.

Heck, I'm sure I'll probably come across a few more things over the next couple of days. So...what else is still pouring in for the rest of you?

    Nothing.

Man did I become disillusioned with the state of rock as the year progressed and, as it turns, it's prolly my own lackadaisical approach that's to blame. Sloshy's 2008 YEC, some good stuff from noddin0ff, and Finchey's Obner cribs have me rollin' on.

And, hot damn!!, whattya know, ol' GSwish has joined the fray. Hit up the Steve Wynn already and now I'm lazily plodding through the "For Against"...solid, it be solid in that je ne sais quoi kinda lugubrious way. Hey Al, did you look at all them coasters on the coffee table and feel the need to school me? In any case, thanks...to all...the new stuff is much appreciated,

I really like the cover of that Teenage Bottlerocket album.

    New stuff I got lately:

I haven't even listened to it yet, but it's supposed to be a good, throwback R&B album.

Only spun this one once, but it's a nice African beat album.

I swore Antony of "the Johnsons" fame was leading this band when I first heard this, but he's not. This is relatively standard indie rock fronted by a strange vocals and lyrics, which make it interesting.

What's this about "For Against"? Are you talking about the band, or is that a song?

You listening to the latest album? I've been a fan for some time, and love their first two albums, but haven't ventured past those.
