Whattup Jaybo, that lp cover looks like it should be the soundtrack to "The Rum Diary"...

...over here cruisin' through a Sunday with Michael Kollwitz' Steppin' Out courtesy of my friend with the improbable name of Finch Platte. How 'bout them stick players?

The Rum Diary? Damn son, you read? I just picked up a couple of books myself.

Sum 40 tales from the Afterlives - I love short stories cuz my attention span has expired back in early '00.Book itself is alright.

The Bedroom Secrets of the master Chefs - I wanted to get If You liked School, You'll love Work(Short Stories) by Irvine Welsh but wasn't available. I hope it's as good as the Filth.

Really digging this new release, Goodnight Oslo by Robyn Hitchcock & the Venus 3. Lyrics from an off kilter subconscious and a backing band that for all intents and purposes is just over half of R.E.M. --R.E.M.'s Peter Buck (who's worked sporadically with Hitchcock for more than 20 years) on guitar, Minus 5/Young Fresh Fellows/R.E.M'er Scott McCaughey on bass and Ministry/R.E.M. vet Bill Rieflin on drums. This one's released on Yep Roc Record and that label has a write up page that plays a sizeable interview with Robyn talking about the album with tracks in the background. Interesting and and interesting way to market.

And because I'm a fan, I picked up the reissue of Robyn's classic I Often Dream of Trees w/ 6 Bonus tracks.

One of the best sounding RVG Remaster edition in my system. Might be too bright in some system, but works well with my tubes.

Before Natalie came along...and of course the big-label deal...the Dixie Chicks were a local Dallas band with heavy leanings toward bluegrass. I'm surprised at how well my tubes like them.

How's the tubes like Alison Krauss? I've got one of hers and I like the production better than the Chicks.

So Long, So Wrong, Forget About It and New Favorite sound great...probably the only flaw that comes to mind is the sibilance. Very nice separation of instruments and placement of Alison's voice. Every Time You Say Goodbye sounds nice enough but a little duller overall and not as clean on the separation of detail. Now That I've Found You seems to be just right. Easy to listen to and Alison's voice sounds perfect. It's like the Chicks' Little Ol' Cowgirl...maybe not the ultimate on the instruments but the lead voice sounds terrific.

I picked up Rick Braun & Richard Elliott, R&R, today. So far so good. I also picked up a 3 disc Allman Brother collection. I haven't dropped it in yet. Only good stuff left that I found at Circuit City, got 60% off.

Isn't it a sweet voice. I had the oppurtunity to meet her 'bout 25 years ago when she was just starting out in Edmonton, Alberta. I was taking an audio engineering course and one of my classmates was her roomy. We used to go see her perform after class and between sets she would come over to our table to visit. Good times and a good call Aa!!!!

Far as I reckon, she's still pumpin' out tunes and writing. She published the book Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller a couple of years ago and I believe she still contributes to Garden and Gun Magazine's Words and Music Column. Her website: www.tallgirl.com gives tour dates, etc.

    Hey Sticks, nice tunes.

Have your heard Byne and Eno's "Everything that Happens will Happen Today"?
I didn't grab it cuz they didn't have one in LP yet.

    Keeping it mainstream right now:

    Boz Scaggs

    Speak Low

Boz does some great covers on this cd. This is a great recording and the musicians are excellent. After being burnt out on Silk Degrees many years ago I never thought I would want to hear Boz ever again. I am glad I gave this one a chance. For those with HDCD players this disc is HDCD encoded.

I weeded through a couple LP's out of the stacks I haven't evaluated yet.
One was a copy of Toys In The Attic. I have the CD but wanted to hear the LP. This is one instance where the LP is quite a bit better. I have an early CD, not sure if this has ever been remastered.
    ZZ Top, Fandango.
Beatles, Yesterday and Today, this copy is mono, not sure if all are. Actually Drive My Car is on there and I think that's on my Rubber Soul CD in stereo, so what's up.
Jefferson Airplane which was too bad to listen to and I have a remaster any way.
Then I went to disc and listen to Kingfisher Sky, Hallway of Dreams.

Hey, I got Within Temptation, Black Symphony on Blu-ray. It was an import and the most expensive BR I've purchased to date. The American version is only DVD but includes a CD. I bought the import for Blu-ray but saw it had two discs and thought I was also getting a CD. Well, no, it was a DVD of extra stuff but the stupid thing is PAL and won't play in my BR player. I have a LG laying around that plays PAL, I might hook it up some day to see if I'm missing anything. Good concert video though, they are playing with Metropol Orchestra. You'd have to like that Netherlands Symph/Metal thing though which I do a lot.
