What is spinning?

Sometime you pull something out of your collection you havent played in a while and you sorta forget what such an outstanding piece it really is. This CD is like that....it makes you want to just grove along with the music.

I would describe Apocalyptica as hard Alternative with Cellos as the lead instruments, some instrumentals and some with guest vocalists. Very good stuff.

How is that Stanley Turrentine? I've got Blue Hour and it's one of my top jazz favorites. Can you compare or comment? Such a rich, 'come on' sound he's got. Can't complain about Sugar either; pleases both the Turrentine and the Hubbard fan--Sultry + Sizzle.

Yes Noddin, I have both of those. That set with the 3 Sounds is fantastic, you don't need to compare. They all have merit and should be in your colection. Aside from Hustlin you should get That's Where It's At. These two LPs are Turrentine at his most fluid.

I am a big Hubbard fan. He blew a geat set on Sugar, but IMO his best sideman work was with Hancock. Empyrean Isles was all Hubbard, he stole the show.

We musn't forget Benson and Carter on Sugar, the whole line up is stupid good. Back in the day Benson could shred with the best of them, he still can but chooses to be "smooth". Here's a couple of rec's for Benson and Carter too...

Hey if you have not got this in your collection, get it right away.

MrP put this on last night and it was just outstanding. So I asked for a copy and this mornig it just knocked my socks off. I guess its sorta like Jazz Fusion with a little space music thrown in. This is one of those recordings that if played through warm or laid back speakers, you will miss a lots of high end detail.

Not a big fan of your 2nd hip hop post, but I dig the first.
I was spinning some old(er) school hiphop earlier this week and couldn't get enough of it. In the name of O.C. Word Life, I think I'll spin some DITC on wax tonight.

Ha! The first one is all east-coast stuff, which I vastly prefer from that era. The second gets into some g-funk, which is really more toward my co-worker's taste than mine. Very observant! Although I will go toe-to-toe with you any day on the OutKast and UGK records.

Possibly the best battle concept ever put to wax. By far one of my favorite hip hop LPs EVER.

'94 was a fine year but pre 90's was better. There was no east/west bullchit. The music was new and exciting.

heres one that i THOUGHT was recent but NO, its from '04. i had heard some of robert miles' music and just thought it was sort of pedestrian smooth stuff but this is quite stimulating.

Can't seem to stop playing this. It's only available on itunes, cdbaby and Spotify (do you americans still not get Spotify?) and it bothers me greatly that there isn't a CD to purchase.
