Today for me, I put some Jackie Mittoo on after seeing nobody's post, but right now I am testing the limits of a new soundcard. Mercury Rev "Boces" should do the trick...

LOVE Jackie Mittoo. When I talk to people who don't know who he is I will often describe him as what you would get had Booker T Jones been born in Jamaica. I'm gonna go throw The Keyboard King at Studio One on right now.

...hey nobody, have you heard Byron Lee and the Dragonaires? I have 7 really beat up LP's that I'm presently converting to MP3. Great stuff, I'll make it avalable for torrent DL, only a few tracks on VA comps right now...
-
Haven't heard it, but let me know when you've got that torrent ready because I will absolutely be interested in checking it out.

Tumbleweed Connection
Not terribly original, but I decided to give it a spin. It was a thrift-store vinyl find that I had never cleaned. Today it got the shop-vac treatment and around it goes.

This definitely has a lot more kick than the original. Great stuff.

The Vandelles: Del Black Aloha
If you like Jesus & Mary Chain, Raveonettes and other similar stuff, you outta grab a listen to this. It's a bit up and down, sometimes the songs get lost in the noise. But when they're on, this sounds really good. Listen to Bomb the Surf for a great fuzzy Jesus & Mary Chain meets Dick Dale instrumental workout.

Bill Withers - Live at Carnegie Hall '73
Really sweet summer tunes. Bill always feels like an old pair of Levis...soft, familiar, totally cool, and perfect for any occasion. This is a fantastic live album - good SQ and musicians are just stellar.

No picture...But I'm playing "The Barber of Seville". Very cool.

That Terrence Trent album is better than it often gets credit for to me. That cover her does at the end the name of which I forget really shows what a great vocalist he was. Shame he never equaled that debut again.
And, the new Raveonettes slays...

Raveonettes: In and Out of Control
OK, this one's got its hooks in me. And quite a lot of hooks it has. Absolutely their poppiest record to date. It's got plenty of that retro Duane Eddy meets Jesus & Mary Chain guitar sound, but the distortion is a bit more pulled back and controlled. Reminds me of Pretty in Black in that regard, but is a more cohesive listen straight through. While ot a total fuzzball like Lust Lust Lust, but he does let loose with the distortion now and then. A semi-step forward coupled with a step back to dip into their previous sounds making this sound fresh yet totally like the Raveonettes you already like if you're a fan. I'm digging it, but I'm not real objective as I've liked basically everything there guys have released.

Terezin/Theresienstadt
Annie Sofie Von Otter
Bengt Forsberg, Christian Gerhaher, Daniel Hope
"Annie Sofie von Otter commemorates the musicians murdered in the Holocaust"
That beauty can be found in such ugliness is what I needed to be reminded of today. Peace to all those who have suffered and peace to all those who are trying to survive.

Raveonettes, new to me, checked out some samples, I like what I hear.
Ok, checked out LLL, Chain Gang of Love and Pretty In Black. PIB I liked the best from the samples and that's the one on the way to me. Didn't see the title you showed.

My personal fave Peabody is Whip It On. Only 8 tracks but no filler, My Tornado and Cops On Our Tail are classic Raveonettes. Thanks nobody, so busy with the kids, I missed that release entirely...BTW still working on that Dragonaires torrent, slow going...looks like the new Raveonettes hasn't hit the networks yet, I will buy it based on your rec nobody, your track record is flawless thus far!
-
hey nobody, do you have any Raveonettes on vinyl? I really need to order some, all that fuzz through my Shure M65 would be sick...
-
I saw Whip It On, I'll check it out.
Any one follow my link a couple posts back and listen to Lunatic Soul? Not the Raveonettes but a very cool album and sound.

It's downloading presently...I'm going out for a bit but I'll let you know what I think Peabody...

I've only got Lust Lust Lust on vinyl. Not really a great pressing though. Not horrible, but nothing to get too excited about. I would like to pick up some more of their stuff on vinyl. Will probably pick up the new one on vinyl once released.
-
Peabody, I had the pleasure of Lunatic Soul on my portable. Great medium for it, my K66 loved it. Overall I enjoyed it, love the ambient stuff. Also dig how they switch from electronica to a jazz tinged jam in the same track. Bass player has great chops and tone. The only thing I didn't like was that there were definitely some flatline moments, the pacing of the album could have used a little life at points. But I get what they are doing and it's good, thanks for the suggestion P. Have you listened to any Massive Attack? I really think they would be up your alley, DL Mezzanine, awesome album.
-
Poppa C, I hear you but like you said to step things up would ruin the mood they were going for. I'll check Massive Attack.
Nobody, I liked In & Out Of Control, it would be my second purchase if Pretty In Black pleases me the way I think it will. I think I like their Pop/60's kind of thing they do on these albums. Sorry, Poppa, from the samples Whip it sounded similar all the way through and more like LLL. I could like these maybe with a complete listen but from samples I'm not convinced to buy.

Hey no prob Peabody, glad you checked it out. My philosophy is....better to listen and dislike, than to not listen at all. It makes sense that you would like the more dynamic stuff, after hearing some of your taste. I really think you should check out Massive Attack, I threw it in yesterday (Mezzanine). I'm really interested to see if I've pegged some of your style. Anyhow, I bought this Hancock on vinyl and its off the chart awesome. nobody, you there? This album is crazy good!!!!
-
Protection is another Massive Attack to check out.
I got a that Hancock on vinyl. Haven't pulled it out for a while, maybe I will change that today.

Horace Andy & Alpha: Two Phazed People
Speaking of Massive Attack, this is a nice release. Horace Andy's traditional reggae sounds mixed with the more modern electronic styles he works so well within with Massive Attack. A nice album of futuristic dub.

I decided on a whim to clean and play the entire Bob Dylan Biograph today.
