Even with two clunkers, the other 28 tunes (many in mono) bring back tons of memories...

Fun Music
I listened to Allan Sherman's comedy "Peter and the Comissar" on the drive into work. Hilarious! And interesting. Amidst the comedy and the music (Beethoven's Fifth done as a cha-cha, Brahms Lullaby as rock and Swan Lake as a blues), there is some relevant music business/social commentary as in one part the Big Chief Commissar, head of all the Commissar's on the committee that dictates what music is acceptable for public consumption, states:
"There is one fact that must be faced,
WE are the makes of public taste.
And let's have no talk about artistic freedom,
the public goes wherever WE lead 'em."
I wonder if Frank Zappa ever heard this music from 1964 that I understand did well on the "charts". Fiedler conducts the Boston Pops and a few jazz guys are also present. The tenor man does a nice Stan Getz impersonation during the bossa nova section. I found this CD in a cut-out bin but it appears to have been available from BMG as well as Collector's Choice.

...reminiscent of the sentiments in his I Am The Slime...
Sherman's Camp Granada's melody was from Ponchielli's Dance Of The Hours as I recall...

...like of piece of the point behind "Joe's Garage".
I don't know about "too serious" but this is something that I'll play a few times and then retire for a good while. Sort of like those old George Carlin records... "Tonight's forecast... DARK! Continuing mostly dark changing to widely scattered light in the morning".

Awesome disc! Have you had a chance to try out the multichannel SACD version? One of those rare occasions where the quality of the recording and performance are both up to the task.
That Cafe Bohemia performance that jrhymeammo mentioned is another standout among standouts. With all this Art Blakey talk, I might need to break out my vinyl copy of Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers -- all in glorious mono!

Damn, Wooch. You got one of those pinhole cameras planted in here? Yes, the Art Blakey and the JMs is, indeed, the SACD version! Great stuff so I think I'll add it tonight's playlist. It appears you've got quite the event going on yourself . Enjoy.
Good listenin' to all...

I'm hungover like a mule.......
The Blackbyrds is rotating happily.
I drove by a yard sale this morning, and this ol' lady gave me 40+ records for free. She just couldn't get'em out of her attic with her age. Lemonade was excellent!!!

Been really diggin' a 2LP set from King Curtis, covering his only two Prestige albums. Really great bluesy jazz stuff.
I like these 2 for one LPS sets from Prestige. I've got another that combines 2 albums on the label that Mulligan and Baker did together in a 2 LP set.
Also got a simliar 2 LP from that couple Ben Webster: Soulville and Ben Webster meets Oscar Peterson onto a 2 LP set.
Great LPs to look for to grab some great music more cheaply than finding a pair of the originals.

David Cross 3LP - Shutup You Fcuking Baby
Does it sound funnier on vinyl? I'll say no, but Red, White, and Blue coloured discs really display his passion toward US of A.
It is a laugh riot.
Sergei Prokofiev - Sonatas for VIolinj and Piano Op 80
Leos Janacek - Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 21
I'm back into Vinyl with full force again!!!!!!
Happy Listening

Something about these steamy, humid nights is keeping me in jazz mode...
I think its remembering living with no AC and just a clock radio with the window open to the alley below and hearing the late night jazz station that I always remember. That's probably when I first really started loving jazz.
Right now, listening to Sonny Rollins: The Sound of Sonny...vinyl of course.
Oh yeah...and I am a Horace Silver fan...listened to Tokyo Blues yesterday and Song for My Father today, actually.

I'm spinning something hard and conscious. Immortal Technique, Revolutionary Vol 1(I dare you not to like it). I remember when it came out. It was 5 years ago or so, and it is already considered classic. Game of Hiphop is funny like that... think I'll play Jazz next. Maybe Teddy Wilson or Earl Hines.
Just kickin' back, dead to the outside world--me and John Lee Hooker. I liked the Mr. Lucky cd so much I went and purchased the Classic Records 24/96 DAD Remaster. Attachment 1947
One of the best sounding blues discs I've heard...
