I won't bother listing all the recordings but this is what I took out of the 80's (among other things):
Rush, Genesis, had great stuff early on.

Metallica, Megadeth of course...And Guns N' Roses.

I think Stevie Ray Vaughan had "Texas Flood" and "In Step" in the 80's, no?

Jane's Addiction started late in the decade, as did Nine Inch Nails.

    Can't forget Iron Maiden...

I try to forget an aweful lot of the rest of the 80's though...Whitesnake, anyone?

    I don't like others.

As much as I like some of the songs on these albums, I've never found them to be all that good overall. I just listened to both of these recently because a co-worker of mine asked me about The Fixx. I think I found them even more underwhelming than I did when they were released. Have you been a fan of these since they came out, or have you recently taking a liking to these?

I'm in the midst of a Dinosaur Jr revival so I'll add "You're Living All Over Me" and a couple from their SST label mates Sonic Youth - "Evol" and "Sister".

I've been a fan of them since they came out, more or less. Reach the Beach in particular, is one of those albums that just seems to go way too fast, because every track on it is so strong, despite it being a 'normal' length, and not particularly fast-tempoed or energetic, it just seems to really rock from beginning to end.

Shuttered Room though, I have to admit, I have my favourite tracks on (the two big hits and "The Fool").

    I have to add:

Comsat Angels, Land and Chasing Shadows
Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, Mob Rules
Metallica, ...And Justice for All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Kill 'em All
Megadeth, So Far So Good...So What? and Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?
    Stranglers, Dreamtime
New Model Army, Thunder and Consolation, Ghost of Cain, No Rest for the Wicked
    Golden Earring, Cut, N.E.W.S.
    Tonio K., Amerika
Devo, New Traditionalists (just to be a little different)

I really wish I could think of more rockers. I just wasn't that into hair metal like Queensryche or indie metal like Big Black or the Minutemen.

And I should change my initial statement -- my tastes (from the 80's, anyway) match yours, Jim Clark's and Dave G.'s a lot, too (were they to pipe in).

Well...that's all I could think of at the moment...and yeah, there are some notables missing, but I'm taking the question to its literal hilt and listing '80s albums that I actually listened to in the '80s.

I know as soon as I hit the submit reply button I'll go, "Doh!"

    Good question!

The hard fact is, there are only about 10 of these albums I still listen to, and only three or four of these artists have continued to make albums past the '80s or '90s...and only one or two of them as of late.

    BTW: Where's your list?

...until you and J came by and laid down some great titles. I think we good fit the Dream Syndicate in there somewhere, and maybe Richard and Linda Thompson's "Shoot Out the Lights".
