    Ex Lion Tamer
    R.I.P. Syd Barrett
Apparently NME is reporting today that Syd Barrett has passed away, (last Friday), due to complications from diabetes. One of my first musical heroes, the news brought a sadness to my day. RIP Syd.

Just heard the bad news also.
He was well taken care of by the band members. He was always loved, no doubt. Whatever his name was, he's music definetly touched my soul.
Rest In Peace Syd, Sid, Roger.

    sad news
I recently read the Pink Floyd bio titled "Saucerful of Secrets"..........very well done and the first half of the book is dominated with tales of Syd. You are 3/4 through the book until you start into Dark Side of the Moon, so therefore you can see how much space is devoted to the early days of Floyd. I recommend it as a good read.

He was definitely a pioneer -- many ways genius -- many ways a fukkup.

Although it was never stated, I got the impression he was terribly bipolar.
    Sad news.

BTW -- the most interesting news in the book is that when Syd began his decline, Waters reluctantly took control of the band. He had always depended on Syd and really did not want to take on the responsibilities. Thus, in the early days, Waters was not the control-freak that evolved.........which, was in part created by the arrival and creative competition of Gilmour..........good stuff. RIP, Syd.

    Speaking of Pink Floyd
I got my shipping confirmation on the new "PULSE" 2 DVD set which I am hoping will arrive by the weekend. I can't wait because it has a lot of music from some of my favorite CDs. Apparantly the second DVD has the entire Dark Side of the Moon album on it plus many other features.

one of my favorite Syd songs:

    LATE NIGHT

    When I woke up today
And you weren't there to play
Then I wanted to be with you
When you showed me your eyes
    Whispered love at the skies
Then I wanted to stay with you

Inside me I feel, alone and unreal
And the way you kiss will always be
A very special thing to me

When I lay still at night
    Seeing stars high and light
Then I wanted to be with you
    When the rooftops shone dark
    All alone saw a spark
Spark of love just to stay with you

Inside me I feel, alone and unreal
And the way you kiss will always be
A very special thing to me

    If I mention your name
    Turn around on a chain
Then the sky opens up for you
    When we grew very tall
When I saw you so small
Then I wanted to stay with you

Inside me I feel, alone and unreal
And the way you kiss will always be
A very special thing to me
