    Sounds Good! Mk. III

Yes, it's finally done. I'm not posting a tracklist here as I think it'll be a bit more fun if I leave it a surprise. Track contributer, original album where the track came from, cover art, etc. is all in the meta tag data. I did fade up/out the one live track and snipped off some end-of-track silence to tighten up the flow but for obvious reasons did nothing to alter the fidelity. About 1/4 of these tracks don't look so great when you look at the waveform but none of them have any audible digital clipping. It'll make a good demo disc but more importantly it's full of great music. If you burn it correctly (gaplessly) it'll be 78:37. Total file size is 486.8MB (FLAC-8).

    Enjoy!

    Beauty. thanks!

I'd be curious to know which looked bad on waveform. Not that I could tell. Just to satisfy my sense of wonkishness.

Tracks: 2, 9, 11, 12, 13, 17, and 19 to variable degrees. All sound good-to-outstanding though so that's what counts. I actually can't believe how pegged #2 is, for instance, and yet it still sounds superb.

Thanks for the efforts Slosh -I'll download this when i get home tonight - hopefully I'll figure out how to convert a flac file to something I can burn to a CD. Any tips?

    flac converting

    Hi Ex Lion Tamer.

Here is what you need to convert from flac.

This is a free download, the program is called burrrn(google it). After you download you simply open the flac file and the burrrn program and drag from flac to burrrn. Then hit the Burn button and voila one playable CD.

It really is that simple and it works all the time.

    Enjoy.

I never tried Burrrn but always recommend MediaMonkey3 if you use a PC, or xACT if you're on an Apple platform. Both are free and won't take over your registry. MediaMonkey works with other lossless formats besides FLAC (WMA Lossless, APE, and Apple Lossless if you have QuickTime installed), plus all of the lossy formats too. I believe xACT does too but since I'm a PC user I can't tell you if it's a Media Player or merely just a transcoder app (a friend of mine says it works better than MacFLAC on his Leopard machine so I'll take his word for it).

MediaMonkey will let you burn it directly to CD with no conversion to WAV necessary. Just right-click on the playlist file (or album title) and select "Send to" > "CD/DVD burn". Then check "Burn audio CD (for any CD player)", Playlist with Pre-selected Tracks should be checked (by default) > level volume shoud be unchecked > "Write CD Text" checked, Write Method should be "Disk-at-once (no gaps)", "Enable buffer underrun protection" checked, "On the fly audio burning" checked. Then hit "Burn".

I given this many listens now. Nice work! Holds together very well and it does sound good. I'm finding some new gems on it. Thanks for the effort. Hope people are downloading.

    Whattup Sloshy,

I'm looking forward to hearing mine and, accordingly, there's a few surprises in store for your sloshing highness. Do you think that there's some that are as limited as I making the FLAC conversion a daunting proposition?

Speaking of formats and confusion, I noticed when I was burning some discs for one of our less fortunate members form the Great White North that my WMP is set for Windows Media Audio Lossless. Do ya think that might splain some of th issues folks have had with some of my evaluation discs?

It wouldn't play at all on a CD player if that was the cause but would be fine on a PC with WMP, MM, or any other software that handles WMAL. I'm speculating that you're set up to rip in WMAL but burning a regular old redbook CD. FWIW I rip in WMAL too but use Nero to burn because I can edit, fade, etc. without first having to convert back to wav, unlike some of the other lossless formats. AFAIK WMP11 still doesn't have an option to burn gapless CDs. Get with the program already Gatesy!

BTW, your CD should arrive tomorrow unless in got swept away in a torrential flood or sumthin'

I would go grab it, but I'm on borrowed computers for a while right now and don't have the software to be able to use it.

Two weeks and only 5 downloads so far. That's not even as many people as there were contributers

This isn't a sting from the RIAA (honestly ).

It's not my music; it's a group compilation. Give it a d/l. Who knows, there might be some stuff on there you like.

    Unless you're too happening

Slosh: You know I always love yer stuff (well, most of the time anyway). But like Mr. Nobody, I'm having computer issues too. And work issues. And drinking issues too, but that's a whole other story!

Believe me, it's not a lack of interest.
