Since the participation has only been from a handful of people I may just say the hell with it and make this with mostly my own stuff, plus the songs in this thread that I actually like.

This a song from 2006's All The Road Running album by Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris. It has decent sonics, and may be more in line with some of you guys' tastes, considering what's been posted thus far.

Here's one I like to play loud, just for the vocal performance alone - Opeth's Hours Of Wealth...uh, no...it isn't what you think.

Is this ripped from the DVD? My computer is telling me it's 44.1kHz/24bit. I can convert it to 16bit pretty easily if so.

I really wish I could have participated, but my computer crapped out on me. I should get it back today - so I'll tr to upload the selection I mentioned tonight, (though it lookks like you've got plenty to work with at this point).

I'm gonna wait to see if more people participate before I move on this. While there already is more than 2 hours worth of tunes in this thread, there are only six contributers (including myself) thus far. I'm probably gonna omit any jazz just 'cause the vast majority of stuff so far is rock or country.

I may still make one of my own wholly unrelated to this thread, just to suit my own taste.

Yeah, I don't care if you omit the jazz. I thought it would be fun to listen to incase someone was curious, but if yer making an actual CD-R comp, then no, I wouldn't include them either.

OK, so I lied. Here's one for ya...a country tune from way back. No, not even an alt. country act, but a corporate one: Diamond Rio, from the Love A Little Stronger album (name of band and title of album is a dead give-away that its a country band).

The track is Night Is Fallin' In My Heart...now don't click away yet...this is one of the better sounding discs I own, not to mention one of the few country albums I haven't parted company with when I dabbled in country a few years back. It has a bluegrass feel to it, though it isn't bluegrass.

Slosh, you ain't gotta consider all the tracks I'm submitting, I'm just doing it for fun. But you'd be surprised how good this song sounds on a good system.

Worked fine here. Must have been a problem with MediaFire, which can get kinda buggy sometimes when server traffic is high. It's a WMA Lossless track by Big Star.

That's the only song of theirs I have (taken off 3LB's 1983 comp IIRC)

Thank you all for some great stuff...

    ...except you 3-Lock

I have a few of these, but a lot of them are new to me, so I'll be composing my own cdr from the lot of it. I don't use Media Monkey very much, but it should be fairly straight forward, even for a geezer.

We'll if you want a larger Fixx sampler let me know. I got Reach the Beach and Phantoms. Most the rest is not as kickin. They're a few steps above one hit wonders but not many.

Sounds like it could have come off Josh Ritter's Hello Starling album. I'm slowly starting to absorb these new-to-me tracks. I'm not a big electronica or trip-hop guy, but nobody's Massive Attack and Thievery Corp. selections are kinda worming their way into my (thick numb) skull too.

Oh, I can’t help myself. A couple more. (flac)

Dem Bones (Carla Cook) is REALLY well done. Spare funky bass, crystal clear female vocal, a little bit of keyboard, and 3 trombones. Yup, 3. Trombones just sound so cool. If I had any talent and wanted to be cool (in that way that’s really only cool in one's own head) I’d be a trombone player.

Violence of Truth (The The) just sounds good. It’s got a kind of distant quality to it that adds to the sense of futile anger, I suppose. There’s some racial slurs in there I would normally not tolerate. I truly don’t believe are meant to be hateful, but they certainly could be objectionable. Barring physics, I don’t think you can play it too loud. The doom guitar riff sells it for me.
