    Sounds Funky

I'll take a page from Slosh's Sounds Good compilation effort and also from Lovin's Blues compilations and attempt a community Funk launch.

Can we get down and dirty and get funky? Old funk, nu-funk, deep funk, ... I don't know. Whatcha got?

I wanna learn some more about this genre, help me out. I put out a funk 'inspired' comp a few weeks back but that pretty much exhausted my repertoire.

Are there willing contributors out there?

Post a link, send me a PM, however you want to work it. I'm willing to compile.

Noddy-0, I'm down. Just lemme take care of some bid-ness and get to the appropriate machine.

More than one is great. The sounds good compilation was excellent and most contributors had about 3 songs in it. If it ends up being a 2 CD release, all the better. :-)

Quality files is good. Variety is good. Fun is good.

    Funk All Night

I'll contribute something from a little known funk group called Third Rail featuring James Blood Ulmer on guitar. This is not your normal Earth Wind & Fire / Sly Stone type funk at all but sound quality it has.

PM an addy to send to.

    Edit: Bill Laswell on Bass!!!

Thanks HyFi, I managed to get all but Funkadelic. Megaupload says the file is 'temporarily' unavailable. But it been a very long 'temporarily'. Maybe you could put that one up again?

Encouraging further submissions from any and all!

Hey, that link seems to be working now. Try it and let me know if it still doesn't work for you. If not, I'll re-up it.

Sly And The Family Stone anybody? I always liked their song "Family Affair". (Whatever happened to Sly Stone, by the way?)

Happy Belated T-Day. This comp took a long time. There were some real nice submissions, some I liked but didn’t think fit, and some I didn’t care for (ah, well). I followed my own muse. I found it challenging to string things together in a flow that stayed interesting. I’ve listened to this a zillion times and finally decided it was done.

Personally, I got to discover Funkadelic, and for those not in the know (as I was…wasn’t?), Funkadelic is essentially the same people as Parliament. I never really cared for Parliament, but am thrilled to find Funkadelic. If anyone has similar recommendations I'd like to know about them.

I cut Dusted by Third Rail despite it being a real nice album (Thanks!). I also really liked the 13+ min Lady by Fela Kuti. It was so enjoyable I didn’t even realize it was so long for quite a while. I kinda regret not putting it in. I’ve always liked Atomic Dog and apologize to those who have to suffer through that new Hotel for Dogs movie and have the listening experience ruined by association.

All in all, I think this is a pretty tidy comp. I could have gone longer but I found it straining my attention. Give a listen. Feed back appreciated. Thanks to all contributers!

    Down load at this link.
You’ll find all songs individually as flac and you’ll find one 65MB zip file with all the high-res mp3’s.

Whassup, Noddin'?? Thank you for the comp. Am down loading it now, and cannot wait to hear what you've put on here. A friend introduced some good vibes to me the other day by way of the Budos Band. Its contemporary funk but its got plenty o' that good wah-wah and brass sound....Check 'em out!
