    Sopranos: last night's music WOW!
The Sopranos has always done a standout job of picking songs to lay into the backgrounds, montages, and credits. But, last night's season premiere had me floored. They mixed together Material and Artie Shaw in the same episode!

The song that they picked from Material was the title track from their Seven Souls album, which combined wildly conceived music with alternately brilliant, bizarre, and disturbing narratives from William Burroughs. Material is the brainchild of Bill Laswell, who's one of the most prolific producers in the music industry, and they have done some brain-twisting fusions of jazz, hip-hop, metal, house/ambient, African, Middle Eastern, and Indian music since the early-80s. For the most part, Laswell's projects are usually obscure, but frequently interesting, and it's nice to see Material get a high profile play on The Sopranos.

Yeah, it's always been good with music choices and last night was no exception.

    Best TV show ever.
