Wow! Lucinda and Alejandro are coming to...

...the Whitaker Center and the tickets are only $35. Ok, this is the real deal and I got my tickets. I'm a Lucinda Williams fan and Alejandro Escovedo's "The Boxing Mirror" from last year was among my favorites, so it should be a good show. I saw her at the NOLA Jazz Fest back in 2001 but it was a short and unimpressive set. Just too laid back for the Fest crowd in my opinion. She didn't do any of her old classics, instead choosing songs from her new Essence cd that had just been released, and it's not among my favorites from her.

The Whitaker is very modern with outstanding acoustics, and holds just 1600 people, so you can't get a bad seat. I did get seats in the fifth row, so I should be able to take some nice pictures if they allow cameras to this show. Some do, some don't.

Anybody else have some good shows coming up in the near future?

The New Pornographers are doing a free show here on Feb. 3. Unfortunately, we already have other plans that night. It's an outside show, so it'll probably be too cold to go to anyway.

Yep - in February, I'm going to the Songwriter's Tour - Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, and John Hiatt. That was Mrs. JD's Christmas present to me. And I can't wait.

And as many of you know, Lucinda is a fav. of mine. I'd love to see her live sometime.

As I've heard 'toze comment - "she's the only female on the planet he'd marry".

Listened to "Are You Alright?" from her upcoming album last night. Will be another knockout if that single is any indication. Good stuff.

Dave - you should be here to join me at the Songwriter's Tour. I know you'd love it. Those 4 guys, sitting on barstools on stage, each pickin' a song and talking about the influence of the others in-between songs. I gotta somehow bootleg this show.

    Hey Dave,

Yeah you do, it's a quality rendering of a good show. Good to have you 'round these parts.

    Cheers

Emmylou Harris and Neko Case are playing here at the end of March. My wife and I are trying to line up a babysitter for the kids so we can go.
And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.

I have Lucinda's Austin City Limits DVD and Alejandro's live Room Of Songs double CD set. Nearly the same thing, eh?
