So do we want to do a Tuesday thread?

    I'll post this.

"What have you been listening to"?

"What is the name of your dog"?

    "Do you like Prog"?

"How many comps do you have"?

    "Do you like spatulas"?

I have been listening to Flower Kings - Rainmaker, Kaipa, Glass Hammer, Devo, Aerosmith, TFTO on the new re-re-re-re-re-remaster, and playing some Tiger Woods Gamecube 2004.

    My dogs name is "Bella".

    I like prog.

I have maybe 30 comps at least. How many do I listen to? Very few more than 1 time, some none.

I hate spatulas except when making grilled cheese sandwiches.

Lots of great things this week.

Ken Hensley - Proud Words On A Dusty Shelf. Nice job burning this Hyfi. Really good shtuff.
The Clash - Combat Rock. Not bad. The radio hits were familiar. I like London Calling better.
Midnight Oil - Blue Sky Mining. Pretty good. I really like this, especially the title track. I do believe I like this better that Diesel And Dust.
Stan Ridgway - Anatomy. Another excellent album.
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds Of Fire. Damn good hard rockin' fusion from John McLaughlin and company.
Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters. Nice funkified Jazz from the ex-Davis Quintet member.
Miles Davis - Jack Johnson, Cookin', Relaxin' and Workin'
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus. From the creator of all those Peanuts tunes. I really like Guaraldi's piano playing and this is a damn fine jazz album.
    Johnny Cash - Unchained
Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around
B.R.M.C. - Take Them On, On Your Own
    Chain - Reconstruct
Jonny Lang - Long Time Coming. New release from this excellent blues/rock guitarist. Pretty damn good.

2003 Exposed from Mason: - I had to listen to this for a period of nearly 2 weeks to really start appreciating what was presented here. I have begun to warm up to it although there are a few tracks that will never get any better. For instance, that Death In Vegas track was a real stinker as was M83's offering. Just not into much electronica I guess. Didn't care for that Manitoba track either.

The rest I liked with varying degrees of satisfaction. In other words, I could get through them without hitting the skip button. I didn't like that Radiohead track at first but now I think it's pretty killer. British Sea Power sounds just like Bowie (to me) and that's a good thing. Killing Joke's track was very cool as was that Deadboy track. And, of course, that Opeth track was one of my favs on the disc.

Anyway, thanks Mason for sending me your 2003 summation. The keepers far outweigh the losers.

Which thread do I post in dammit?

Been obsessing over "Wind and Wuthering" lately. It sounds so damn killer.

I made this new song "Morocco Mole" in GarageBand.

I've been listening to my Sales Reps problems all freakin' day long.

    My dog's name is Scooter.

For the most part, I don't like Prog, but I have heard some stuff that ok.

I have two bazillion comps in my possession and have put together a whopping 5.

I like spatulas for obvious reasons. Ever hear of the "Aunt Jamima Treatment"?

I like yer selections this week.

That XTC is one of my favorites, it has the classic XTC sound but the feel and so forth on those particular songs are a little different from the norm XTC, if you know what I mean.

I like that Marillion a lot, too.

And that Yes. Can that stupid Dove song and that's a killer cd.

    And the Genesis, too.

Still suprised you haven't been able to dig that Galahad I sent ya. Keep on giving it a chance, it may hit you all of a sudden like some titles do.

    Regards,

    Dave

been listeing to a few things at werk.. several Slosh comps from last year and a few of his new ones.. Slosh is quite the mixer when you take time to notice the subtleties between the songs.. I was so surprised to hear some weird correlation between a Black Heart Procession track and a Grateful Dead cut.

Been enjoying DPM's METAL OF AGES comps. Rockin' stuff, I swear, some of those songs I had not heard in 10 to 15 years. Nice to hear those "deep" cuts that didn't get much airplay..

    Spun a few albumz:

    Notwist - Neon Golden
    Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne
    Beck - Mutations
    Menthol - Danger! Rock Science
    Shipping News - Save Everything

I don't have a dog now, my first dog when I was a kid was Buster. My porn name is Buster (your first pet) Florida (the street you grew up on). Fun game.

Prog.. I like some of it, some of it I don't. It has to be down to earth, it has to sound somewhat natural (I hate that Asia sound, though some of their songs were catchy), it has to be somewhat twisted, and, well I like heavy too.. though the soft stuff is nice. I like Crimson, and some Yes, but haven't latched onto old Genesis yet.

Comps? From others or my own? I've been making mix tapes since forever, I have maybe 75 cd comps I've made. As for comps from others? probably around 200. Maybe more.

    Spatulas rule.

Snow day here today so we're all trying to coexist.

The dog's name is Chase, the previous one which I had for about 17 years was Jazz. Dogz rool.

Can't flip my pancakes and burgers with my fingers so I have tried to develop a working relationship with spatulas over the years.

    Last week I listened to:

Orange Billboard-Moonbabies. Some very good songs but falls way short of the standard set by June and Novas.

Roman Holliday-The EP which is excellent all the way through

    Hysteria-Human League

    UB40-Geffery Morgan

    Gary Numan-Warriors

Soundtrack-Risky Business for the Kraftwerk toons

Roger Hogdson-In The Eye Of The Storm

    Afro Celt Sound System-Vol.1

Comsat Angels-Fiction and Waiting For A Miracle

    NIN-Closer

Adam and the Ants-Dirk Wears White Socks

    Ramones-Pleasant Dreams

    Green Day-Dookie

and other asst. odds and ends

"What have you been listening to"?
Mostly the 3 new comps I got from Jar. Each excellent in its own way. I will be melting them down to create one 79-minute monster sometime this weekend. Probably.

"What is the name of your dog"?
I have a cat, named Annie. When I was a kid, I had a dog named Casius. Which makes my porn name "Casius Grosvenor."

    "Do you like Prog"?
I do, but I would not label myself a "progger." I definitely lean toward old-school 70s prog (when I'm in the mood for it).

"How many comps do you have"?
A whole bunch. I've probably made 40 to 50 of my own, and they account for approximately one-quarter of my listening these days.

    "Do you like spatulas"?
Actually, I do. But I like the big, slurpy stirring spoon more.

I should send you non-fade versions Does it annoy you when the track gets cut-off at the end? hehe.. I'm a nerd. Glad you like the comps though. BLOWIN IT was sort of two ideas that got merged together.. one idea was to start off a comp with Tom Wait's "Big In Japan", because I heard it on the radio and was reminded of what a cool song it is. But I had a bunch of alt-country tracks ripped for some other comp I had an idea for, so I kind of merged the two together. Sort of a more guitar-oriented brother to SUCKIN' WIND I guess. I don't think I listed it here... but I don't list many comps anymore anyways... not much new in my collection to report.. old dusty stuff mostly..

    BLOWIN' IT

01 Tom Waits - Big In Japan
02 Primus - Tommy the Cat
03 Rocket from the Crypt - Young Livers
04 Soul Asylum - Sometime to Return
    05 Jane's Addiction - Obvious
06 Guided by Voices - Blimps Go 90
07 Flaming Lips - Guy Who Got a Headache and Accidentally Saves the World
    08 Menthol - A Bitter Feud
    09 Pixies - Dead
    10 fIREHOSE - Locked-In
11 Dinosaur Jr. - Blowing It/I Live for That Look
12 Appalachian Death Ride - Sometimes
    13 Sidewinders - Doesn't Anyone Believe?
    14 Replacements - I'll Be You
    15 Pavement - Major Leagues
16 Superchunk - Here's Where the Strings Come In
17 Goo Goo Dolls - Hey
18 Buffalo Tom - Soda Jerk
19 Uncle Tupelo - Life Worth Living
    20 Velo-Deluxe - Skin & Bones
    21 Gem - 2 Me Now

No need for the non-fade versions...I'll make do w/ what I got, and gladly. Thanks again. Comps that start off one way and end up going another...jeez, don't get me started.

I think you and I are pretty much doing the same kinda thing these days...mining the old dusties and newer hit-and-miss releases for the handful of gems you can stick on a CD-R. One of these days, I'll have to burn my best 30 comps and swap you for your 30 faves (at least the ones I don't already got). But that would probably be legally and morally wrong.

Been listening to my wife ***** about how we now need to get a bigger house since we're due another addition to the family in a few weeks. Can't say she's really wrong about this one, but i don't really want to listen to it, ya know? Musically i've been listening to lot of different stuff via comps i've put together. No real albums... just lots of variety from the mixes. Revisiting a lot of what i've put together and discovering that some totally kick arse and others totally suck arse.

My dog's name is Raleigh. My first pet was cat named Sparky. The street i grew up on was Allegheny. Porn name = Sparky Allegheny. Not very exciting.

    I do and i don't like prog.

I have probably 100 comps. Probably 75 of which are ones i made.

I've never been attacked, robbed, beaten, etc. by a spatula, so i guess i have no reason not to like them. They are rather useful around the kitchen and the grill.

I forgot to answer most of these questions.

I have a cat. "Crunchie". It's the sound she makes when she eats hummingbirds. My first pet was a cat named "Spot" which makes my pornstar name "Spot Alcazar". I kinda like "Crunchie Alcazar"as a porn name . . .

I have a kerjillion comps, give or take.

I do like prog, but defy anyone to define the word.

I AM the spatulator, because I am the Grilled Cheese Kid.

Yes, that's right; "Crunchie Alcazar, the Grilled Cheese Kid".

I don't have a dog. I have a dead cat called Bob planted in the begonia garden abut 1 foot down. He's doing just fine.

    "Do you like Prog"?

No new prog. Old crap like Yes and Pink Floyd and Atomic Rooster and Amon DullII and Moody Blues . Everything that came after is no good.

"How many comps do you have"?

    250. Leading contributors are DAvey, Chip, Brad, Yech, and Yentoze and jack 70. A number I've listened to dozens of times. And none I've never spun all the way thru. Even Unleasell's prog one. And RPMs really heavy one, Compus Ruliius Maximus

    "Do you like spatulas"?

Yes, I play with several on a regular basis. My favorite is my Sonoma Williams one. When you got a steak on the grill and you wanna cut into it to see if its bloody, its gotta side so sharp you could use it to do emergency field surgery. Got a nice plastic one for flippin Chaurachacuas, and a rubber one for the tub.

I have been listening to Flower Kings - Rainmaker, Kaipa, Glass Hammer, Devo, Aerosmith, TFTO on the new re-re-re-re-re-remaster, and playing some Tiger Woods Gamecube 2004.

Devo and Aerosmith are nice. I try to play golf like Tiger Woods for real. Don't need no flippin Gamepube.

    My dogs name is "Bella".

    Pretty name. Is she Italian?

    I like prog.

I've been listening to some Miles Davis: the Essential Miles Davis, some two cd set I picked up as the only other Miles I had was kind of blue. Covers a lot of years and its like 23 songs.Sigur Ros:Agaetis Byrjun: the one with the weird drawing of the fetus on the cover. I like to listen to this when I'm reading. Dave Brubeck:Time Out: trying to expose myself to some classic jazz.Van Morrison: Moondance: definitely one of my favorite cds. And some live DMB stuff I downloaded a while back(please don't turn me in to the RIAAA. like i have anything they could sue me for anyway.) Of course it all sounds like crap because it was downloaded. Anyhow nothing too exciting compared to most of y'all I'm sure. I've gotta get some new cds soon.

My dog's name is Heidi. I've never heard of using dog's name for porn name; we always used our middle name with the street name? In that case mine's David Flintlock.

I'm not even really sure what prog is: Progressive Rock? That was pretty much before my time(born in 77). Someone mentioned Pink Floyd who I do like.

    Currently own no comps.

I'm a pretty big fan of spatulas when indoors but when out of doors I think I prefer tongs.

    I don't have a dog now,...

... but my last dog was named Mandy. She was 17 1/2 when we finally put her down. If I ever get another dog I'll probably adopt a greyhound.

I love prog, and I like spatulas too.

I have about 15 comps--most of them from Demetrio (where is he anyway?).

My latest listening sessions have included...

    1) Devon Townshend/Accelerated Evolution
    2) Jethro Tull/A Passion Play
    3) Silent Knight/Silent Knight--this is a six song CD from the band I was in when I lived in New York.
    4) Deep Purple comp featuring stuff from the 80s and 90s
    5) Anekdoten comp
    6) Marillion comp of Fish era stuff
    7) Inside Out sampler #2
    8) Thinking Plague/their latest (I can't think of the title)

"What have you been listening to"?

The Beach Boys comp I put together for Mad Rhetorik (but haven't sent yet), the Distillers, NRBQ, Billie Holiday, Las Vegas Grind, Joe Strummer--Streetcore, Jet, Senor Coconut/lb, the Small Faces, & the White Stripes, & a comp or two.

"What is the name of your dog"?

Dogs are filthy animals. My cat's name is Margaret.

    "Do you like Prog"?

When it's being used to torture Saddam Hussein or Al-Qaeda, yes. If it's within earshot, no. I'd rather listen to a poultry slaughter.

"How many comps do you have"?

    Probably around 150.

    "Do you like spatulas"?

Funny you should ask. I had to make an unexpected trip to PA today (Swish, HYFI, are you anywhere near Upper Darby?) & on the way back in the car we gave the tapes a rest & turned on the radio. WFMU had this psychedelic program on that leaned towards prog, at least for the half an hour or so we tolerated it. Following a lengthy selection by a Magma-inspired avant-garde artist named Koenji Hyakkei, we got hit with a mofo of an opus by a band called Quiet Sun. This is a band, I just discovered, that Phil Manzanera was in prior to his joining Roxy Music in the early 70s; he re-formed the band in 1974 to make an album, also with Eno & Charles Hayward of Gong. The recording, which was f*cking ENDLESS, was called--I swear--'Mummy Was An Asteroid, Daddy Was A Small Non-Stick Kitchen Utensil." As we sat & cringed, I thought of the glee that would have been brought to the faces of people like Dave G, Troy, Demetrio, Darren, & the rest of you people who like this constipated garbage. Score one for yr side. Geez, what a load of crap. We endured it for a goof as we sat in rush hour traffic on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and you know what? IT SUCKED.

"What have you been listening to"?

Probably nothing I haven't posted about before. Stuff like:
    Handsome Family: Singing Bones
    Joe Strummer: Streetcore
Mighty Math: Spangled Up of a Tumbler
    Miles Davis: Walkin'
    my 2003 comp
    some classical stuff from Brahms
    some AC/DC
bunch of other stuff, but I'm too lazy to write more today

"What is the name of your dog"?
No dog, just three cats, Noir, Blanca and Madchen, along with some birds, Elvis and Priscilla.

    "Do you like Prog"?
Not really, but every once in a while I like something somebody calls prog. Usually, a bunch more people think it isn't prog.

"How many comps do you have"?
    Thousands.

    "Do you like spatulas"?
Yes, except when I leave a rubber one on a hot pan too long and it starts to melt into my food, actually happened not too long ago.

I have that Quiet Sun song on a comp. Yeah, it's not terribly good. Too trebbly, too shrill and generally cheesy and dated. Manzanera took the central Spanish flavored guitar theme and reworked into a song called "East of Asteroid" on the excellent "801 Live" album. Less solo wankery and more melody and a lot more bottom end punch.

Still, I'd rather listen to Quiet Sun than The Ramones . . .

On a lighter note, your Margaret bears a striking resemblance to my Crunchie.

I hate dogs. My cat's name is Gus.

I like certain prog bands. Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Tool, maybe an occasional dash of Dream Theater or Queensryche. You can keep Yes, Jethro Tull, ELP, Rush and that other crap. Too self-indulgent.

I've made one comp. I don't have any Rave Recs comps yet though.

I like spatulas. I find that they make excellent weapons.

    I forgot one thing:
On the subject of spatulas, my outdoor grilling spatula rules with an iron fist. It has a flat sharp edge in front, a serrated sharp edge on one side, and a meat-tenderizer on the other side. In the middle is a beer-bottle opener. All mounted on a long wooden handle. I love that implement...in a strictly platonic way, I assure you.
