Set the wayback machine to 1994 ....

I've been heavy dosing on Three Mile Pilot recently, specifically their excellent and hard banging 1995 Geffen second album, The Chief Assassin to the Sinister. The lumbering bass-heavy, "Aqua-Magnetic", playing as I type. That's a bunch of years ago. Originally released on the little indie Headhunter in 1994, then picked up by Geffen about a year later and treated to a remaster and a couple extra songs, then unceremoniously dropped back to the indies, as Geffen and the rest of the biggies did with so many other bands in the mid 90s. Man, I love this album. Very heavy. Really sounds like a combo of Black Heart and Pinback, mixed up with some of that dark, double-bass foundation of Girls Against Boys, but heavier than all of them combined. Have to crank it up too, cause it ain't all crammed into the top couple decibels like most modern stuff. Nice sound. Really curious to hear what they're gonna do for the upcoming "reunion" album, if it still happens. Been in the works for a few years, I think. Great bands in Pinback and The Black Heart Procession. This one even reminds me a little of Slint at times, but more of that Pinback melodic sound. Kind of Television sounding, with maybe a hint of middle-Eastern sound. Very cool. Post-rock meets pre-punk. Anyone pick up that Songs From an Old Town We Once Knew odds and ends collection? Had all of their stuff on my djangos list forever, but doesn't surface much. Guess I should branch out

    New Pinback this year, right?

Yeah, Autumn of the Seraphs, due out some time this summer. I haven't spun Chief Assassin in a while but for some reason lots of droning noise comes to mind, but maybe my memory is going

Oh, BTW, this is pretty good too:
