So yeah, I had to shout about the new Shout Out Louds album. Good as the first (Howl Howl Gaff Gaff)? No, probably not but it's still pretty much awesome throughout and comes with a much better title, Our ill Wills. The only thing that bums me out is that copies purchased at independent record stores or directly through Merge Records are supposed to have a three track bonus disc. My copy purchased through the very independent Need More Discs in Shawnee, KS didn't contain the bonus disc : (

The Swedish invasion continues to run straight through Kansas. I had to wait until Friday to get my copy because by Wednesday the store had already sold out. The music is just a conglomeration of big, shiny pop tunes which in a way harkens back to The Cure. Think Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, not Pornography. Jangly guitars, high speed tambourines, violins and bells. Maybe these are cowbells, maybe they're just regular bells, who's to say? It all adds up to an almost Spectorish wall of sound with just plain fun tracks. Vocals are a bit similar to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in that Elmer Fudd kinda way but I think it's a language issue but not nearly as pronounced. Any way, if that bothers you, this probably isn't going to be a good rec for you. For me, it's going to be really difficult to keep this out of my top 10.

I don't know how to do the youtube thing but I'll try. They need a bit of direction when it comes to videos but what the heck, it's about the music anyway.

Jim, it's possible that the record store that you shop at doesn't order through Merge (or Touch & Go, who I believe does their distributing), but orders through AEC or some other intermediary wholesaler. I know that this was the case when I punched the clock for a while at a very independent but not so hip record outlet.

I remember that first Shout Out Louds disc was pretty decent... maybe I will have to check out some samples from this one. So much to buy lately, though.

...and remember that you're the one who sent it my way, so thanks again. I heard one track from the new release several times on the Sirius channel Left of Center on the way to a fro Myrtle Beach last week (just got back from vacation hence the delayed response). I won't go as far as calling it among the best of last year, but it's up there in the top 20 or so. They're a lot of fun and I'll likely be buying the new one soon.

This is a focking incredible disc. Probably too simplistic for most, but goddam, it's one that sticks in your head with barbed hooks. :16: (and no upright bass, neither)
