I found this while rummaging thru my box of tapes.

Remember the machines they had at Tower that would crank these tapes out for you, even printing the labels?

I only had one made, because it was so expensive- I think this one cost around $20 back in '90? It was pretty cool, tho, and they let you pick a couple of freebies to put on there to sample.

I'm surprised they haven't done this with CDs.

You can get custom made CD comps.

I know I've seen several places that offer them. Maybe not record stores, but I think Amazon was offering them, and I know I've seen others offer them. From what I recall, they were rather pricey, just like your tape.

I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

Hey that's kind of cool, I 've never seen that machine.

    Do they still do that?

Hell no! I can't remember how long it lasted in my Tower, but, needless to say, it didn't catch on. I'm sure there were many Tower/record industry execs scratching their collective heads over that one.

I guess "rippin" online and burnin comps takes the place of that obscure cassette maker, huh.

    Still pretty cool.

How long did it take to make the tape?

    Did you pick the songlist?

It was made while you waited, and it was like a jukebox- you just punched in the songs you wanted on your tape, and voila!

It was a good-sounding tape- TDK Type II and they used Nakamichi machines. I wonder who has the Personics machines now? Anybody want to do an EBay search?

Check out Google and enter Personics Tower Records- there's a couple of links there, fyi. Apparently, Personics (if you've just Googled 'Personics') is still around, but they do something else.
