    Wow, you couldn't make it any harder dayum!!!
    James and Curtis were both prodigious writers, singer/songwriters. Both went through an evolutionary process. Curtis went from this "minstrel" stage to that of an "civil rights" poet to portrayer on urban life to wounded icon. He did them all with style, grace, great arrangements and soul... James was first a romantic singer, then blues shouter to funk progenetor and through it all never lost track of the back beat. Amazing body of work. James gets my vote because of his profound influence on modern music. Despite what others here may say I vote him ahead of all other artists... including the Beatles, for lasting impact on modern American Music. As Christigau once called him "the Black Ulyses" James Brown... Soul Brother Number One..
