Day-um...there's a lot to like there. Not the least of which is the videography.

Is this the guy who used to be in Japan?

It's possible. I managed it. Maybe unlikely, but definitely possible.

He's like the long, lost son of Peter Murphy and Sarah Brightman born into Robert Palmer's closet...

... although to be fair it's nothing more pretentious than what I listen to on a regular basis.

Yea, David Sylvian. His last record was under the Nine Horses moniker and was a collaboration between David, his brother Steve Jansen, and electronic composer Burnt Friedman. It's somewhat of a return to the lush and accessible sound of Dead Bees On A Cake, but with a bit more of the electronica elements, and more of a jazz feel, especially on the amazing third track called "The Banality of Evil" that goes on for 8 minutes, sounding very exotic and polyrhythmic, somewhat reminiscent of Peter Gabriel, with some enchanting backing vocals, and then the ending comes along with some soft but skronky horn soloing somewhat akin to Ornette Coleman's work with Joe Henry on his great Scar album. Wonderful song that is a real standout - could probably listen to it on constant repeat. But it's only one of many. Really a nice album. First track is pretty nice too. Great vocals traded between David and Swedish vocalist Stina Nordenstam. Like much of his work, it gets kind of intoxicating with that deep voice playing against the oftentimes complex arrangements and textures. Always surrounds himself with a group of excellent musicians, and this is no exception. Probably the best thing he's done in recent times. Full of sorrow, as the title suggests, but doesn't drag you down into a world of self pity. Almost cathartic. Sent out a few copies as a mystery disc package last year, but not too much love. I know that me and Mike and Dusty liked it though

Yes, I managed to be utterly indifferent to it very nicely, thanks.

Cool...Nine Horses...Banality of Evil...I'll have to check it out.

Interesting side note: I looked up Japan on allmusic and saw that Richard Barbieri was their keyboard player...the same guy now playing for Porky Tree. I didn't know that.

Same rich, layered keyboard sound in Japan too.

    Hey, another Sylvian fan here!!!

Many of his recordings feature the guest appearance of Robert Fripp on guitars.

    Cheers,
    Demetrio.
