    Bobsticks was making me aware of the e-release of the new NIN album. Upload of the new NIN release to appear shortly (flac) as per this license agreement.

    NIN – The Slip

    I downloaded in Apple lossless and converted to flac. NIN offers flac download. But, lossless is lossless. These are links to my flac files. I’ll probably delete if the download count gets too high. If this is a problem, shoot me a PM.

    They also offered a 24/96 format that I’m still getting. Don’t know what I’ll do with it. If you’re desiring to have that, PM me.

    hmmm. So the High Res files are WAV files at 24bit/96kHz. iTunes on a Mac plays them as is. I can safely assume that most everything else does. I use an external DAC with the optical out of my MacBook Pro. Don't know if iTunes converts or if the DAC is getting 24/96 (I don't have any indicators of bitstream on my DAC but it is 24/96 capable). Anyone know?The High Res files work and appear to be intact.


    UPDATE: For Mac users, there is Audio MIDI Setup.app in the Utilities folder. You can use this to set the digital output to 24/96. Not sure if this makes lower res files upsample or not. Anyway, it looks like one could output the 24/96 stream to a DAC through the mini-optical output hidden in the headphone jack.

    Actually, I got home late last night and opened up an email from a buddy and found that friendly little invite. Curious, I opened it up and and farked around with it for a minute before realizing that I didn't have the tools to properly open the torrent and there was like an hour limit. I threw out a couple of pims just guessing who might be lurking about and, voila!, out pop Big-Nod and Sloshy to the rescue. Thanks for doin' the dirty work.

    Yep, this is great, 2 new albums in the last few months.

    Anyone else order Ghosts? Loved that I could download the FLAC while I was waiting for the hard copy in the mail. I was pretty impressed with the speed of shipping and the packaging itself. Wasn't sure if NIN would cheap out, and glad to see they didn't.

    Glad to see an established act truly trying to redefine the distribution concept from a business standpoint. Hope a bunch of other artists get on board and take the pushers and middlemen (read: labels) out of the industry...or at least reduce their involment. Fight the power!!!

    I'm downloading The Slip as I type...can't wait.
