I couldn't tell you first song, but the first intrument I learned how to play was the recorder. It was in grade four and that was my introduction to reading music.

"My Country 'Tis of Thee" on the toy piano. My grandfather taught me.
(That's "God Save the Queen" for those of you in the Commonwealth.)

Can't remember the song, but it was a GG Allin song on trombone.

Great topic.
1. In School: "Hot Cross Buns" on the recorder. They did things like that back then.
2. In a band? - "I Can't Stand It" by James Brown. Very simple about only 4 notes on the Bass Guitar. Hey we had to start somehwhere.
Hot cross buns rings a bell for me on the recorder as well - but I also recall "tie me Kangaroo down" as another.
My instrument in high school band was the Oboe.

I learned some simple stuff to facilitate grasping the piano. First serious piece I learned was a Burgmuller Etude--Ballade. Good exercise for young children. I played it when I was seven years old for my elementary school, a move the music teacher didn't inform me of beforehand.
