    Pittsburgh music?

Stuck at work for a few hours, but I've got some tunes to keep me company. My mind was drifting and I started wondering if there are any artists or music associated with Pittsburgh. Jeez, first I find out that the Steelers don't have cheerleaders, now I can't think of any music from the town, how can I be rooting for them?? But I am…..Steelers 27 Seahawks 24 (in OT)!!!

    You heard in here first.

Keeping me company here at work on a lonely Sunday:
Soundgarden, John Hiatt, Rod Stewart, Neil Young & the Twilight singers. On deck: Hum & the Geraldine Fibbers

Pretty cool work playlist there my old buddy (unless you're spinning the do ya think I'm sexy version of Rod Stewart instead of the you wear it well version ). Just did a quick search at AMG for Pittsburgh birthplace and it turned up a pretty big list, but not much rock. Quite a few names I recognized in jazz, but with the exception of the Slint-like math rockers Don Caballero, not many names I recognized in rock.

You are quite sexy, but not exactly my type. I pulled Every Picture Tells a Story (MFSL) for today's RS listening pleasure. However the Geraldine Fibbs are getting my "play of the day" nod at this point.

    Now playing: Outside of Town.

Classic rockers would know Donnie Iris. He's to Pittsburgh was Michael Stanley is to Cleveland...

The Karl Hendrix Trio and Hurl are other bands associated with Don Cab, but they're pretty underground..

Hey, do you still have that big collection of MFSL copies? Think maybe I need to work out some kind of trade thingie with you one of these days to snag a couple. Is that something you might be interested in pursuing? Guess a PM would probably be a more appropriate venue for this talk, so nevermind

I thought somebody noteworthy would be from the area, but these are some unknowns to me. Seattle surely wins the music superbowl!

Hey, Newtrix, how many MoFi's do you have? I'm up to 34 & looking for more.

Still a good showing, considering what they were up against. Pittsburg had the 12th man tonight. 13th man if you count the refs. Seahawks get a bum call against the reciever in the endzone, taking away an early touchdown. They stop Rothelsburger short of the goal line. The one catch they called out of bounds when the Seahawk reciever had one foot in bounds and the other kicked the pylon; in the past that was called a touchdown. Madden himself questioned a holding call that killed another big play.

Yep, it was Pittsburg's night. That's what Seattle gets for being in a close game. Still not a loss as far as the season's concerned 'cuz I think they'll be back. And I do like Bill Cower. He himself having been on the short end of the ref stick a time or two or five.

Seattle was jobbed for sure. How do you call an illegal block on Hasselbeck when he's making a tackle, 15 free yards on a crucial tuchdown scoring drive. Just one of many calls that could be called chintzy, at best and sometimes just plain wrong. There was no doubt who was "supposed" to win this game...the Steelers got EVERY call.

It was a better story for the NFL, marketing wise, I guess. But, I'm not terribly sad for the Hawks, because I'm hoping this will motivate them all next year. Let's face it, that's a young team to win it all right off the bat. New England was special for that. Speaking of which, this had a lot of similarities to the Pats first SB win. The Rams had the best record (14-2), the best offense (led the league in scoring, again), and the Pats had to win what, 9 or 10 straight games? Same with the Steelers.

Anyway, the Pittsburg Steelers deserved to be there and I didn't hate them like I had for years. I always thought that Bill Cower got screwed in years past with some seriously bad calls. (remember the coin toss debacle...in Detroit). Karma was good to him in the SB, that's for sure.

Hopefully, this will carry over to next season. I'd rather string together three or four winning seasons with only one SB win than be 'one and done'. I finally look forward to an up coming Seahawks season. We'll see what they do with an up-graded schedule

playing in a golf tournament. He's a mortgage banker in the Pittsburgh area for a company called Sim Corp. Nice guy, but really short! What was really funny was that I made a wrong turn going to the golf course and saw "Ah Leah Drive", obviously the entrance to his home and a tribute to his hit song. Anyway, we chatted about music a bit and, like I said, he was a really nice guy, although I never much cared for his music.
