    Lita Ford or Joan Jett?

I'd have to say Joan had more commercial success. Everyone should know "I Love Rock & Ro..". 1988's Up Your Alley is a great album. She was in at least one movie. I believe Lita has more actual albums though. She also got some traction from her duet with Ozzy and that song Ain't No Big Thing, I think that's the name. I find Lita more attractive.

In case anyone didn't know the two ladies played together, got their starts, in an all girl band called the Runaways. If you've ever heard them you can tell by listening who wrote what song. The band was in a constant struggle with Joan being more Punk based where Lita was a girl of the Metal.

I can't answer the question, help me decide.

Joan Jett hands down, not even close. Joan Jett has way more records, actually. She has become an icon for women in rock and is a living legend. After the Runaways, Lita had a couple lame hair metal hits and sang one duet with Ozzy, a crappy power ballad on the downside of his career. This one is not even close.

Lita Ford was a moderately talented guitarist (perhaps more so than Jett), moderately attractive, terrible singer (not even as good as Jett), and that song she did, Kiss Me Deadly, was horrible.

Joan Jett represents the resurgence of back to basics rock-n-roll when new wave ruled, as well as female empowerment. Ford represents the unintentional parody that rock had become of itself, as well as female sexploitation in metal. She was Samantha Fox with a guitar.

    Nope, not even close.

Joan Jett any day of the week. I wouldn't argue with the assessment of Punk vs. Metal. But Joan's wonderful 2006 release Sinner is a heavier, raunchier, crunchier record than thought it would be. Some real Judas Priest flavor.

I think Joan's strength comes from her being firmly planted in the Punk world while one foot dangles gingerly in the Metal world. IMNSOHO, Punk has always been more accepting of female artists and even fans. The outspoken politics of authoritative bands like Fugazi and The Dead Kennedys helped make both the stage and the audience a safe place for women to be. If your gonna hang out at grope girls at a punk show, you're not going to last long. If you hang out and grope girls at a metal show, you're the band. I could name 3 or 4 dozen punk bands off the top of my head that are all or partly made of women, but quickly run out of metal bands. Help me out here people: Kittie, Lita, Vixen (is that metal?), Smashing Pumpkins (Melissa Auf Der Maur and D'Arcy). Who else?

Joan is much sexier than Lita, IMO. Made more so by her refusal to comment on her sexual preference. I have video of her in 1984 playing a New Years Eve show on MTV and they've got her so girlied up that she is visibley uncomfortable. She's beautiful in the video, it is a really surprising girl next door kind of pretty, but she's uncomfortable. Versus video circa 2004 where whe is all androgynous, much older, still sexy, but comfortable in her skin - the sexiest part, IMO.

Lita's earlier albums were better, like Dressed To Kill. I't s just the commercial stuff is what most know of her. I didn't know Jett had anything released since the 80's.

The Viking Metal or Goth bands tent to have female singers, Epica, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation etc.
