Like many others, I often prefer to revisit...

...the past times of morning glory. At the moment it's the Manchester scene of the early nineties. I've always been a fan of them Brits, in particular, of Noel Gallagher but then again I've always liked contrarians. Perhaps this has to do with a certain ennui about the impending new releases or a lack thereof, or perhaps a longing to find something familiar. In any case, here's a proper bit of a humorous thing...if anyone can explain why I like Oasis but would take a pass on the Beattles I'll entertain all theories...

    Comments, thoughts, issues?

Put a House beat behind the Beatles track and see if things improve.

You're contrarian, or you like to be au courant, you like their thick bushy eyebrows, or you are an audiophile, and prefer music with good sound quality. Let's face it, Beatles were a good band and they're albums were decent sound quality if you ask me, but they won't move yer woofer.

Never got into Oasis myself - don't hate 'em like some do, but just never got into them.

You might like Neil Morse, formerly of Spock's Beard...he delved into the Beatle-esque and had a full head of eyebrow:

I am curious...but there's so much new stuff out there, as well as undiscovered old stuff, to spend money on stuff I already own. I used to buy all those reissues...stuff I already owned...some of it was worth it (Kansas and XTC remasters are excellent) and some were not because the 'improvements' was nearly indistinguishable from the first issue CDs (Yes*, Genesis, Steely Dan).

I astrisked Yes because their recent digipak reissues are superb, except for Relayer, because it still sounds like the engineers was going for the canyon effect. Chris' bass was all but mixed out; Moraz's keyboards and Howe's guitar were sometimes in indiscernable from each other. The drums were muted, the cymbols sounded like pie tins. I should tread lightly though...this is the sort of thing that gets one booted from the inner circle

You know Bobschticks, I found that interview to be very entertaining. Funny, it only worked today when I logged on...before, it was blank...I thought you were doing some nihilistic thing or something

Danke, T...I've been eyeing some of those XTC japanese remasters and your rec goes a long way with these ears. Now I'll pull the trigger.

...as long as that's au courant enough, lol.

Hmm, a few of us around here picked up some of our favorites on those XTC remasters when they were first done (partly because they were very cheap at the time, maybe in 2001?) and they are better in some respects (I only had vinyl, but was able to get a few tracks from the original CDs to compare) but unfortunately they are compressed and eq'd as well, so if that modern aggressive sound doesn't bother you ... I only picked up my favorites: D&W, BS, and ES and I think on a good system that you get a more realistic sense of the music with the originals, more space and airiness, nothing in your face. But the remasters do have the bass pumped up quite a bit so they are enjoyable.

But then again, this guy says they sound very good ... http://archive.audioreview.com/10/0EEB3092.php

Hey there stranger...whattup Davey?! good to see your simian features in this lil' corner of the internets. i figure this is one of those no-lose situations....worst case scenario I play the newbies in the Moon Buggy and enjoy the originals on the big rig in their original splendor.

How be things in your primitive-primate part o' the world? Any noteworthy tunes spinning that a fella should keep the eye open for? Partially on topic, i tried a little Joy Division earlier in the day but the love wasn't there...i have since drifted in unpredictable fashion but, as you know, I'm always looking for new stuff...
So, I broke into the palace
With a sponge and a rusty spanner
She said : "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing"
I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

Not much new stuff around the Monkey Palace, though I heard these guys may have a new one coming out some time this year, after almost 10 years on hold, and I'll be all over that ...
