    Latin Jazz? Cubop?
So someone made me get this album:

...and it's quite good, nee' excellent. Very lyrical, melodic, and smoov, without being smooth jazz, if you know what I mean. I believe the key factor here is cheese -- this ain't got any. Goes down like an Iced Tea on a hot summer's day. I mean, look at this line-up:

    Gato Barbieri on sax
    Bob James on piano
    Lenny White on drums
    Steve Berrios on percussion
    Andy Gonzalez on bass
    Mike Mainieri on vibes

The vibes and sax steal the show for me, but there just is not a weak link.

So if anyone is aware of any more of this kind of stuff, I need recommendations. Should I pursue "latin jazz" or "cubop"? Or is it really the players/composers that are making this work as well as it does, and I should pursue other material by them (I.E. Gato Barbieri, Bob James, and Mike Mainieri)?

Hey, how'd you do that, Dusty?
When I hovered over your post, I could see the "cheese-free" comments about this album but there was no inside message besides the album cover in your actual post??? You smart!

It looks like something I might check out, but my old eyeballs can't make out the name of the album.

I didn't do that. I've noticed that the front page (to Rave Recordings) gives a nice little preview function of the posts.

Not sure why you couldn't read the post, though. I can see it.

Name of the album is Afro Cubano Chant.
