Just got tickets for Les Dudek

Yeah I know he's old, but so am I.

I guess I have enjoyed Les since I was 10 or so being played by my brothers. One of my favs is a Steve Miller song written by Boz Scaggs called Sacrifice. Yep, that's Les playing all the good guitar. Tickets are only $17.50, what a throwback!

    Below is from the advert:

    "Les Dudek

    Southern Fried Blues-Rock

    Wednesday, March 11, 2009
    8:00pm - $17.50*

Collaborating with the who's who of rock, Les Dudek is best known for his searing guitar work. Les recorded & toured with The Allman Brothers Band (playing guitar harmonies with Dickey Betts on "Ramblin' Man" & the intro acoustic guitar on "Jessica"), Boz Scaggs (Silk Degrees), Steve Miller (Fly Like An Eagle & Book Of Dreams), Dave Mason, Cher & Stevie Nicks. Les also wrote or co-wrote songs with many of these artists in addition to scoring for film & TV."

    Anyone else enjoy Les Dudek?

Sounds like it's gunna be a great show. I'm one of those guys that checks LP covers for contributing artists so I been a fan for a long time running. Enjoy and let us know how the show was.

PS; Southern Fried Blues-Rock, sounds like an old Nazareth song "Kentucky Fried Blues".

Wow! I didn't expect anyone to bring up Les Dudack. I thought he was too obscure or long forgotten, and he is touring of all things. I have City Magic on LP.

Hyfi aren't you out East? The casinos around here have some clubs that bring in older bands that were good and StL is a Classic/obscure Rock kind of town but Les has never made it through. Trower comes through every year.

I haven't heard a Dicki Betts solo album I was very fond of but I saw him open up for Marshall Tucker in the early 80's and he scorched the place. He just blew me away. Details are foggy as I said it was the 80's plus I spent the day of the concert at a German festival, so lucky I made it to the concert at all.

I guess I didn't realize how much I enjoyed Dudek until now - I figured Stevie "Guitar" Miller did most of his own solos. I also didn't know Dudek played guitar on Sacrifice (one of my fave SMB songs). That song smokes on a good rig - one of SMB's last great space-blues songs. I guess I need to look the old dude up.

    What album/s do you recommend?

I only had 2 albums, his first debut:

Les Dudek (Debut) Les Dudek CD
    pad
Les' first solo album simply titled "Les Dudek". Originally released by Columbia Records in 1976. This CD features FM radio classic "City Magic", and founding members of the band TOTO. Produced by Boz Scaggs, this long awaited CD release can now be yours! Go to the discography page and click on the album cover for credits and to listen to samples of each song.pad

    and

    Les Dudek Gypsy Ride CD
    pad
Les's fourth album originally released in 1981 by Columbia Records. Produced by Les Dudek, engineered by Lee DeCarlo. Top pick in all the music trades, now available on CD. Take a ride up the coast with Les! Go to the discography page and click on the album cover for credits and to listen to a sample of each song.pad

    Both are smokin'.

Agreed, Sacrifice is killer on my rig too. I have also heard a cool version of it by Boz but don't know what it's on.

Yeah, I am east, northeast just outside Philly. In Sellersville is a small venu where lots of old timers come for cheap. Every seat is good.

Check this out, I had no idea Les was in the movie Mask. He is sitting below Cher.

    Old Judge Jones...... thanks dude.

Not to hijack but who has Tommy Bolin or Pat Travers?

I've got Bolin's CD which features Post Toastied. I also have a Billy Cobham LP which features Bolin and Jan Hammer.

I've got two CD's and about four other LP's of Travers.
Snortin' Whiskey and Drinking Cocaine.... baby
    I've got:
    Live
    Heat in the Street
    Putting It Straight
    Black Pearl
the other two are coming to me right now

While I'm on a half roll, what about Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush:
What's Next ( My favorite by them )
Live ( killer version of Johnny Be Good )
Joggernaut ( as a whole not so great )
    one other which escapes me

I have a CD and two LP's of Rory Gallagher

That's enough for now to get your ear wax wet for some guitar.
