Swishbaby going to see Arcade Fire w/ Spoon.

Scored seats for the August 6th show at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in MD. Never been there but I hear it's nice, and we got reserved seats too. This will be the 3rd time I've seen Spoon, but the first for A.F.. This makes up, somewhat, for the canceled Interpol show (stupid Bono), and I still have Pavement in September.

Anybody else have some good shows coming up?
I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

Spoon is opening for The Flaming Lips here. I wouldn't mind going but no one wants to go with me.

The only show that we have scheduled so far this year is a free concert by Iggy Pop and the Stooges on June 19th.

There are a few other bands coming to town that I'd like to see like Rush and Roger Waters but I just don't feel like paying $150+ per ticket.

I'm still waiting for Spoon to play Montreal - they've never been here. Getting pretty frustrating; last I checked, they play Boston one night and than two nights later in Toronto, what would it take to sneak in a Montreal show in between? I guess I should have been a concert promoter - God knows someone's asleep at the switch here.

Considering 2 road trips in mid-July- one to ATL to catch one of those "bucket list' artists who hardly ever tours the U.S. (and who I've never seen), Joan Armatrading; another to Asheville for The Felice Brothers, who rarely ever get that far south.

A tempting offer indeed - do you remember where and when they're playing?

Oh yeah; is it OK if I wear my Habs jersey?

Sure, if you wish to suffer from public humiliation.

For what? Wearing the Habs jersey or being seen with me?

(I'm asking for trouble. I know).

Yeah, I'm seeing Arcade Fire and Spoon too... plus Green Day, SoundGarden, the National, The Strokes, the New Pornographers, Phoenix, MGMT, Hot Chip, DEVO, Erykah Badu, AFI, Grizzly Bear, the xx, Jimmy Cliff, The Black Keys, Gogol Bordello, Rogue Wave, Mavis Staples, Wolfmother, Yeasayer, The Dodos, Metric, Freelance Whales, Drive-By Truckers, the Walkmen, Frank Turner and dozens of others. 8/6 - 8/8 on Chicago's lakefront.

Probably wearing a Blackhawks jersey. Heh.

    That's a nice lineup...
So, I broke into the palace

I said : "That's nothing - you should hear me play piano"

Green Day is one of the bands on my must-see-before-I-die list. They're coming to town this summer...unfortunately, I'll be out of town that week.

Aye, there's the rub. Because it is virtually impossible to see all the bands on your "must" list at those big festivals. Devo and the New Pornos, for example, will be playing simultaneously on the two main stages... literally 1 mile apart.

But, a good time will be had by all.

A conundrum to be sure. On one hand by whipping over to the Devo stage you might have to sit through drawing lessons Yo Gabba Gabba-style but on the other they shall assuredly not outlive New Pornos...

My son just went through that expereince at Bonnaroo. He didn't get to see all the bands on his list, but he and his buddies had a great time. Most importantly, to me, they all made it home safe.

I ran across a festival in Louisville called Forecastle that I'd never heard of. Decent lineup, but in the middle of July I think I'll stay close to AC.

We have a festival here in Montreal - Osheaga, pretty similar line-up, though of course we don't get Spoon or the Drive by Truckers but we do get Pavement and Japandroids. I don't know whether I'm going to attend - I don't know if these old bones are up to a full day or even two-day marathon music session, plus I generally not thrilled with outdoor venues; though the line-up sure does make it tempting.
