"I thought that we'd be further along by now...

...I can't remember how, we stumbled to this place."

A good friend's daughter has a very nice singing voice and, borrowing an idea from Johnny Cash, is compiling a list of songs she needs to learn (if you didn't know, at the age of 18 Rosanne Cash was given a list of 100 country songs that her dad recommended she learn). I strongly suggested she learn 'Long Lost Brother' from Over the Rhine, and I'm going to scour my cd collection for a few more. I don't think I could come up with 100, but maybe 20 or 25, and I want to stick to female artists. Care to name a few that aren't 'diva' oriented (Celine Dion, Mariah Carey)?

I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

I was trying to keep myself from throwing out all Fleetwood Mac songs. Now I've got to at least add "Songbird" and "Dreams".

"Love Letters" - the version I'm most familiar with is Ketty Lester's which appears on the Blue Velvet sound track.

Swish, what kind of range has she got? These three have great technique and range.

Thanks for all the suggestions. To answer the main...

...question...what kind of range does she have...I said up front to forget the 'diva' stuff because she won't be able to handle it, nor will she like the music (Whitney, Celine, etc...), so Heart is out of the question, unless it's 'Dreamboat Annie' or something.

I'm not so sure she can handle Patsy Cline either, but I may be wrong. I haven't heard enough of her to make that assessment. She has been requested to sing our National Anthem on numerous occasions, once in a fairly large arena when they had technical problems with the recorded version they usually play, and she got thunderous applause.

I'm going to listen to some of the songs I'm not familiar with and see if they make the cut.

    Thanks again,
    GSwishDaddy

"In A World Of My Own" from the Disney animated Alice in Wonderland circa 1940s.

This is a great long-forgotten song.
