I got what I paid for! (the Halloween thread)
I bought a CD of scary halloween sounds at the drug store for $2.99. I'm just going through the sounds to make up something to play for the kiddies coming to our door tonight. This is the cheesiest sound effects CD that I've ever heard!
Drowning - obviously someone gargling into a microphone
Falling Down Well - a man kind of moaning/screaming as he walks away from the mic to simulate distance.
Falling Into Chemicals - Falling Down Well sound with static.
Dog Growling - obviously not a real dog...probably the same guy who's gargling and moaning.
Breathing - sounds more like an obscene phone call than anything ghoulish.
Finger Cutting - too crispy sounding for fingers...carrots maybe?
Groaning Man - I imagine what Jar has sounded like for the past week or two. :(
This had to have been made in somebody's basement!
The kids next door stuffed some old clothes with leaves, used a rubber mask for a face and put the mask in a hooded sweatshirt. Then propped the whole thing up against a tree. It looks great. I think that I'll just do a loop of the breathing and screaming and some sinister laughing and set up the CD player next to it. What fun!
So what are y'all up to for Halloween tonight?
I had to laugh when I read yer post
Only just back after a few days off but I bought a budget CD with about 80 cheesy sound effects. Halloween in the UK didn't really exist much when I was a kid but now it's a big thing with parents taking their young ones around. We usually dress the house up and had about 80 kids round the other day.
The CD I have has some laughable sound effects and some genuine scary ones. One is just plain distressing what sounds like a grown man crying in an attic room. But I managed to gleam about 5 good ones and linked them all together and left it playing on repeat on a portable pretty loud in the garage, it gave a nice hollow echoey sound.
It worked really well hearing the kids shrieking as they came down the drive which is dimly lit. One little kid about 5 years old came running down the drive, gradually slowing to walk as he got nearer, then halting about 10 yards from the house and finally turning and running. He came back about 10 mins later with his parents in tow, ain't life great - probably scarred him for life.
Missed the Tuesday thread but here's a few that have been sat in my car the last week or so...
Wolf Parade - Apologies to queen Mary (the jury is still out on this one)
Spoon - Gimme Fiction (yeah I'll say, gimme more)
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
LCD Soundsystem
Cheers
