    Fun.

In an earlier thread, I joked about buying the CD Fun. - Some Nights accidentally.

It only took one listen to realize that I bought it based on a popular song that had a lyrical phrase I liked,

"So this is it. I sold my soul for this?Washed my hands of that for this? I miss my mom and dad for this?"

I love this album like I loved Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen - We Are Floating In Space the very first time I listened to it.

Its darker than I expected. From a band called "Fun."

There's some straight up rock, with lots of bass, but punctuated by some orchestral accompaniment, just like I like it.

And because I'm feeling melancholy on this Devil's Night, I'll quote from Stars.

    Stars

    Growing old is getting old
I often find myself here thinking
About the birds, the boats, and past loves that flew away or started sinking
And it's crazy here without you
I used to think this all was ours
We'd stay up late, debate on how we'd find our way
Say it's all up in the stars

Some nights I rule the world
With bar lights and pretty girls
But most nights I stay straight and think about my mom
Oh god, I miss her so much

And there are people on the street
    They're coming up to me
They're telling me that they like what I do now
And so I tried my best when I took the fall
To get right back up, back in your arms
If you're out here why do I miss you so much

I feel like I had it all
Back before I lost it all
Now I just wait for you to talk to me
But you won't even look at me, baby

And I'd be saying that you
You're always holding on to stars
I think they're better from afar
Cause no one is gonna save us

    Oh, and me
Well, I have faded in the dark
So don't you ever kiss me
    Don't you wish on me
Why can't you see that no one's gonna save us?
    Oh, come on girl

I just need a helping hand
I close my eyes and think about tomorrow
    It never came true
    It came true
    It never came true

    Oh, and you
You're always holding on to stars
You're always holding on to stars
Cause no one is gonna save us

    Oh, and you
You're always holding on to stars
I think they're better from afar
Because no one is gonna save us

    Oh, and me
I have faded in the dark
So don't you ever kiss me
    Don't you wish on me
Why can't you see that no one's gonna save us?
    No one's gonna save us
No one's gonna save me now

    No, no, no
    No, no, no
    No one's gonna save us
Who we are, who we are
Who you are, who you are
You're always holding on to stars
You're always holding on to stars
You're always holding on to stars
You're always holding on to stars

Okay, technically its not a quote if its the entire song.

    Cheers,

    Snowbunny

I love this album. I must've had it on constant repeat for the first three weeks I had it. There's one song that I can't listen to because the autotune just drives me freakin' nuts! But aside from that one tune, it's a strong album all the way through.

Snowie, have you heard much of Walk Off The Earth? They're another band that I'm falling in love with.

To quote you - for some reason that just makes me happy!

I know the auto-tune you're talking about, and I kinda like it. And it only shows up in the last stanza of the song. Easy to skip past, right?

I'd id the song, but I've moved on to Ed Harcourt atm. Not for everyone, but some really fantastic music.

I will toggle over to Itunes and check out Walk Off The Earth.

On a Canuck note, I am so happy to see Tegan and Sara getting national recognition. I had a lot of one-on-one contact with the twins at local summer festivals. If you watch Rick Mercer, he just did some hydro-foiling in Salmon Arm - home to great Roots & Blues festivals.

Oh, I've heard Red Hands but never knew the artist. I love when the female singer comes in.

For those who are trying to place the song, the chorus is easily recalled -

    that
gun is loaded, but it's not in my hand
That gun is loaded, but it's not in my hand
The fire burns, I'm not the one with the match, man
That gun is loaded, but it's not in my hand

    Thanks!

    Snowie

Thanks for putting up the link, FA. What's the connection with Gotye? I do love that one song of his that gets played (and played, and played) everywhere.

I don't know what this thread is about, does anybody know what this thread is about? I do like Spiritualized ... but have a feeling this is one of those gender-specific things that most of us schlong carrying types should maybe just watch from the sidelines

No, it's more than the last stanza. It's almost the whole song. I'll try to spin the album tomorrow to see which track it is. I'm thinking 5, but not sure.
