    The Decemberists.

Hate to admit that, but 'tis true.

I call my bathroom Jim instead of John so I can tell people that I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

If you say the word 'gullible' very slowly it sounds just like oranges.

You beat me to it gramps.

    "The Tain" is very proggy.

I'm trying to think of anyone else I've heard recently..

a band maybe not "Proggy" but very progressive..

[Girlish chant] Swish likes a proggy band! Swish likes a proggy band! [/Girlish chant] Teeheehee.

I should also probably mention Mercury Rev and, another G Swish favourite, Super Furry Animals.

I'll throw out a couple of obvious ones:
    Tool
    Nine Inch Nails

Reminds me of a Tool show I was at - a bunch of guys were there waiting around us for the doors to open, they all had Nine Inch Nails and Tool T-shirts (and one guy had on a Bowie tee). Anyway, they started bashing prog for making 8 minute + songs when 4 minute songs would do, excessive wankery, etc...I gathered they were in a metal band of their own.
They loved the instrumentals, layers, and concept themes in Nine Inch Nail albums, and just thought that Tool was ground breaking by enjoying some success using odd time signatures and making songs that didn't fit into a 3 minute video or radio spot...Tool wouldn't sell out to "the man", apparently...too much integrity and focus on their songs and albums and not making a quick buck. That's why they had cred with their fans...

Sometimes I wonder if some marketing guru at a label started calling all their prog bands something else with a catchy name, I dunno "unorthodox" or something - some clever way of sounding rebellious - if prog bands wouldn't get treated better.

In addition to my above list, I will also mention these other greats:

THE TEA PARTY - Alt-Metal at the best. Favorite releases: "Transmission", "TripTych" and "Interzone Mantras".

V.A.S.T. - Sort of "Electronic Rock". My favorites, in this order: "Nude" and "Visual Audio Sensory Theater".

ANATHEMA - Kind of "atmospheric metal". Favorites: "A Fine Day to Exit", "Judgement" and "Alternative 4".

    Demetrio.

Have you heard Jeff Martin's solo disk? I was so excited for it to come out, but then I found it disappointing. It had a lot of Tea Party influence but wasn't nearly as good.

    Hi, FA!!!

I didn't have any chance to hear that Jeff Martin solo yet. And judging by your comments, it sounds like I am not losing that much, huh? ;-)

    Kind regards,
    Demetrio.
