    HDCD Question
My Rotel CDP plays HDCDs and has a little light that comes on when it detects a cd that is HDCD. I have several CDs that say nothing obout being HDCD ye t the light does come on. Recently it was an Ottis Taylor cd on the Telarc label.

Is this common to have HDCDs that don't say they are?

I believe it's common. I used to know a website that listed all HDCD's, cant remember it though

That same topic was discussed a year or two ago, and IIRC, the answer was yes.

Thanks. I surely can't remember year or two ago conversations. Just odd, you would think they would put HDCD all over it. The sound on some of these disks is fantastic compared to non HDCD disks.

I have at least a couple of "covert" HDCDs. I wonder of the publisher has to pay to diplay the HDCD logo but not for just using the encoding??

It's been years since I looked but there was a thread on headfi keeping tabs on the surprise hdcd discs. I recall it being a reasonably substantial list.

I think that's it. It may have to do with the Compact Disk logo.

    Here's the list I found @ Head-Fi..................

This list is only full albums, but some singles and albums with individual HDCD tracks have been posted further on in the thread. Many contributers have also included more detailed information such as labels and catalog numbers in their posts, but for space reasons I won't be including them on the list itself. Note that Head-Fi's naughty language filter is maiming some of the entries, so don't be confused if something looks wrong.

Please indicate whether or not the HDCD is labeled on the disc, and what genre you would put the album in -- I'd like to be as accurate as possible

The disk is Telarc #CD-83627 - Otis Taylor - Below the Fold
I would put it in Mississippi Delta Blues genre but he labels himself in the Trance Blues category.

How da heck did you get all that text into one post LDB???

Nevertheless, thanks for taking the effort to get this info to us.

Funny, the only Neil Young HDCD that doesn't seem to appear on the list is a greatest hits comp. I'll look at it when I get home for the exact title, and I'm pretty sure it's labeled as an HDCD recording.

Side note: Ya think pix would ever put forth this kind of effort for the benefit of our little community?

I have the Stratus GTs. These sounded real good with my Denon 2807 but really came to life with decent amplification. I find them to be very smooth yet detailed with good tonal balance and Great imaging. I found them to be more to my liking than the likes of B&W, Paradigm and Infinity. I like them so much that I'm thinking that I may hold off on my speaker upgrade for awhile.
