Have any guilty pleasures of late?

My latest would be early '80s Jefferson Starship. Albums like Freedom At Point Zero, Winds Of Change, Modern Times. No, they're not the intellectual musings '70s JS or the rebellious protests songs of Airplane, they're just brainless, flat-out highschool boy rock.

Been enjoying these quite a bit lately.

Yes, Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo, one of the best singers, male or female of the 80's
and not a bad axe player.

I feel no guilt, but a couple friends have given me crap about going to see Cheap Trick tonight.

Personally, I can't wait and will be commencing the drinking within a couple hours.

Perhaps I am a litlle less guilty than some, BUT...
...this morning, on the way uptown to one of my regular music haunts, "Rubberband Man" (is tha by the Spinners?) came on the radio. And I turned it up. Way, way up.I'm so ashamed.

Yes, that was the Spinners, and it was godawful. There's this local guy who made up a sort of dance to it. He lip synchs the vocals and dances around, ending with a moon walk. It's pretty bad actually, but his friends (I'm not one of them) convinced him to go up front at a wedding reception and do that while the song was playing. They all cheered him on and thought it was pretty good, go figure. Made be want to barf up my slice of wedding cake.

I have a two cd set of the Spinners. Rubberband Man is on it. I can burn you a copy if you do not tell the FBI.

You can let "Rubberband Man" know that his brother is alive and well and here in Indy. Our version is this psychotic pimp that can be seen at anytime of the night or day, wildly gesticulating to a boombox. His migration patterns seem to run along the length of 38th St., which dissects the city like a rusty scalpel. Heretofore known as "Crazy-Dancin' Guy", I think "Rubberband Man" is the only suitable moniker. Indeed, welcome to the inner city.

This is a true guilty pleasure and it's new release, even worse...

The Webb Sisters - Daylight Crossing, 2 girlies with lots of acoustic guitar/harp and sweet harmonies. I've had it playing in the car (quietly) the last few days and it's a catchy little number.

It's just old fashioned 70's style soft rock think Fleetwwod Mac Rumours/Mirage for the sound.

Guilty Pleasure Chicago's Greatest Hits

I was supposed to go see REO Speedwagon last Thursday night. That was my guilty pleasure for the week. Due to various circumstances, we ended up not going.

In a nutshell, I was feeling guilty about taking the time to go see my guilty pleasure. :(

...than anything by the Velvet Underground :out:. But that's just me.

I like the Spinners. Rubberband Man ain't my favorite song, but I've heard worse by many others. And, tracks like I'll Be Around and more make up for it with ease. Kinda surprising to see one of the leading Soul groups of the 70s considered a guilty pleasure. I guess I just can't keep track of what people are supposed to like and dislike anymore.

Still like VU though.


And, Cheap Trick pretty much rocked this weekend. Surrender's a great song.
