I had a once in a life time opportunity this weekend, A cousin that plays for the Cleveland Orchestra and was nominated 3 times in the classical section. Her name is Eliesha Nelson. The pre telecast show (where most grammys are handed out) was much better in the performance area. Bobby Mcferrin and Esperanza opening number was pure showcase of talent. And Trombone Shorty took my breath away, I will be looking for his work to add to my collection. Kathy Griffin came out and dropped the F bomb at will, but her wit did live things up. My seats for the telecast show was so high up my wife thought the backup dancing for Lady Gaga were small kids playing on the stage while they were practicing. I took a few pic's with my cell phone so the quality will be poor:

I also have pic of Mavis Staples, Camillionair and Anthony Hamilton from the lobby as they were leaving.
If you can view the pre telecast show and see the live performance during that part it would put the telecast show to shame.

Sounds like an exciting and interesting experience...I rarely ever acknowledge celebrities that I encounter but I would've had a hard time not engaging Herbie Hancock if in the vacinity.
I recognize the political aspect of the nominations and voting (and that's fine), but given the lineup made the decision not to watch the program. Looking at the coverage of the events I can't say I missed much though I'm fine with most of the results.
Kinda sad that we couldn't get better than Neil Young and Esperanza and Drake are hardly "new".
Frankly, this year's Grammys seemed more like a consolation prize to the variety of artists who didn't have the opportunity for a Super Bowl debacle.

Sounds like you had fun.
Most of those on RR don't give a rat's rump about the Grammy Awards, especially in the genres we care about most, meaning rock/pop. I was surprised Arcade Fire won, clearly an anomaly of sorts. I refuse to watch this spectacle, especially with the likes of Lady Gaga. No thanks.

Hey, that's really cool! I'm not a big fan of awards shows and I watched less that 30 seconds of the Grammy's (just caught Grampa Jagger for half a minute). But I think that it would be really cool to be there live.
Congratulations to your cousin for her nominations. Did she win anything?

I like Lady Gaga. Not her music, it’s not my cup of tea, but I like her. I’ve seen several interviews with her. She is well-spoken, honest, and appears to be intelligent. She knows exactly what she’s doing…and what she’s doing is making millions! She has studied “the art of being famous” as she calls it. She says that she just decided one day that she was going to be famous and then did what was needed make it happen, which was basically to be outrageous and give people something to talk about. She gave the people what they wanted and it’s paying off for her big-time.

But, face it, Madonna is in her 50's now, Brittney Spears is a basketcase and lost her cute factor a long time ago, there's a void to fill and Gaga saw an opportunity. I don't see anything wrong with that.
Lady Gaga preaches to her fans to be who they are. Not to allow other people to make them feel bad, or feel like outcasts. I think that's a great message for today's youth, and an important one.
For what it’s worth, I feel the same way about Pink. I don’t enjoy the music of either of these artists, but they appear to have integrity, they don’t take themselves too seriously, and I do respect them for their art (even though it’s not my taste) and for the sensational marketing of their product.

I wasn't really talking about Madonna here. It appears that the whole persona she now enjoys, she ripped off of her long time friend who died after coming up with the idea.
Also, my term slut refers to ANY female (so called) artist who has to parade around in her undies to draw a crowd. If she is so good, why doesn't she just perform in a dress or leisure suite? Is she really a Singer? No she is just another Circus Act.

I don't know that she has to parade around in her undies, I think she just likes the attention and the shocked response that she gets from people. She enjoys being a circus act. :) But in general, I do find your comment offensive. A leisure suit? It just wouldn't go with the act...and it is an act. You wouldn't go to a circus expecting the acrobats to wear leasure suits.
You know me...probably better than most people on this site know me. If I walked around in tight, skimpy clothing would I be a slut in your view? Ignore the fact that at my age it just wouldn't be pretty...25 years ago it would have been.
Is Bon Jovi a slut because he struts around in open shirts? How about Robert Plant or Mick Jagger back in their day?

I have to say, having now heard Lady Gaga speak in a couple interviews, she seems like a very smart, calculated, young woman. I don't like her music either, and she is being accused of ripping off Madonna (both style-wise and music-wise) but there are a lot worse (dishonest, drug-addicted, untalented, stupid) artists out there that are popular.

Apparently there's a bit of Arcade Fire backlash going on that's being reported. That the backlash is coming from Rosie O'donnel and Dog the bounty hunter actually makes me smile from ear to ear.

I don't really care when the guys do it either but at least the 3 you listed came from bands that could actually play music just in case the circus act failed. Hmm, only worked on the women.
As far as the Circus question goes, if I did go to the circus, Lady Gaga is what I would expect to see along with all the other clowns.
I do know you well and would never call you that, even if you did walk around in what I call F Me Pants. That is not quite the same as lingerie.
And yes Leisure Suite over Meat Dress any day!

In addition to the Bob Dylan number, I happened to catch the Aretha tribute. Did anyone else notice Christina Aguliera almost falling off the stage at the end when the camera went to long shot?
