Do you have any big concert plans this summer?

Any shows coming to your town that you're all excited about? How about festivals that you've just gotta be at?

Once upon a time, my summer's were just filled with live shows. There were lots of outdoor venues that rocked when the weather got warm. Most of them have now either been closed down, or converted to bigger venues that have forced up ticket prices so that now I've got to consider a second mortgage before ordering tickets.

As the years go by, I find that I'm not so eager to blow upwards of $60 (and that's at the low end) to see a band live. Also, I've seen a lot of the bands that I want to see. And, while you all have introduced me to a whole new generation of music that comes at much lower ticket prices, a lot of those shows are late night club shows on work nights.

For the first time in my life, I don't have tickets a big summer gig. Nothing's coming to town that excites me. Have I become jaded? It makes me sad.

    How's this for a lineup...

The Pixies, The Killers, The National, Echo & the Bunnymen, Sleater Kinney, Kasabian, LCD Soundsystem, Bloc Party, The Futureheads, British Sea Power, The Kills, The Engineers, Hot Hot Heat, Elbow, Arcade Fire, The Coral, Razorlight, all bands that get a mention around here even Iggy and the Stooges and Iron Maiden.

It's my local 3 day festival about 10 miles away but sadly I can't go this year wifey has organised a holiday, careful planning on her part methinks.

    Cheers
    Mike

In the past few weeks I've seen NIN, The Pixies, Guster w/ The Boston Pops (went to appease girlfriend but the show was actually fantastic).

Coming up nothing big until September when I head up to Canada to see Pearl Jam twice.

Not really. The Constantines are playing in Kalamazoo tomorrow night, but it's unlikely I'll go. Plus, I'd really like to go to that festival in Chicago this weekend that Pitchfork is pushing, but I can't swing it. The one I'd really like to go to (and am currently planning on going to) is The New Pornographers in October (which isn't summer, I know). I seem to see less and less shows the older I get.
And the world will turn to flowing pink vapor stew.

Lots and lots of bands coming here this season - Stones, McCartney, Elton John, etc., but I can't afford the tickets so oh well.

PT was $15 and excellent, will go see Jethro Tull this fall, wanna go see Robert Plant.

Both of those shows are coming here as well. I was thinking about Tull, but tickets will be upwards of $75 once you add in all the service ****.

As much as I'd love to see DT perform stuff from the new album. I'm too old for a whole Heavy Metal Festival. I'll wait and see if they come back to town on their own. I'm hoping that they will.

I can remember watching groups like Van halen, AC/DC, Scorpions etc. very cheap tickets were around 15 bucks max.. but then again it was the earrly 80's last concert i saw that was good was george thoroughgood in toledo it was a free concert not a lot of poeple there but he put on a good show nevertheless. Ive been to more bad concerts than i care to remember. Aerosmith, brian adams, survivor, they sucked bad back in the day... now my age is probably showing but i just cant get into the alternative invasion thats all the rage now. one of the kids that works for me listens to it drives me up the wall. all the bands sound the same, the vocals guitars etc. what happened to when music was inventive and groups had a distinctive sound. it seems the guitar solo has gone to pot as welll none of these kids seem to play their instruments very well. At 39 maybe im just getting too old or stubborn to adapt. i have diversified into a lot of different genres just cant stand rap, alternative or twangy country.

    Mike is officially a bastard!

I kicked it off a couple of months ago with Sloan at a Philly bar. A few weeks ago it was Oasis and Jet at another small venue. In less than a month it will be Coldplay. It'll all wrap up on a Friday night in September with Paul McCartney.
