Genius? Perhaps so. I know I'm a big fan, that's for sure.

But his/their latest effort left me a little...underwhelmed. Sky Blue Sky, at first blush, seems a little too mild-mannered for my taste. At second and third blush, too.

Maybe I'm missing something. I dunno. But I'd rather listen to Being There, YHF or Summerteeth any day.

I like it a lot so far.. can't really say why, other than, it's just so in the pocket. Settled. Mature. Confident. He's not hiding behind anything anymore.

Sky Blue Sky is kinda bland when I play it straight through but when I shuffle it among other Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, and Son Volt songs it seems a bunch better.

I'm not getting the hype with Son Volt - The Search. It's not bad or anything but not really different from the last album either. Of the two I definitely like SBS more.

I really liked Being There for the same reasons. But so far, this new one doesn't really measure up to that standard for me. So far. We'll see.

    Glad you like it, though.
